Pro Tips:

Dry Your Chicken Legs Off: It’s important to pat the chicken dry before cooking because its crispy skin will not get as crisp if you don’t.

Preheating: There is no reason to preheat your air fryer. The chicken will cook perfectly, whether you preheat or not.

Crowding: For best results, do not crowd the air fryer basket; otherwise, the airflow will be restricted, and the chicken legs will not cook up properly. You will often find that when you crowd your air fryer, you will end up with uneven chicken or undercooked chicken.

BBQ Sauce: You can also use store-bought sauce if you do not want to make a quick homemade BBQ sauce.

Add-ins and Substitutions

Chicken: You can use any part of the chicken that you want. This recipe will also work with wings, chicken breast, thighs, or even turkey wings or cutlets.

BBQ Sauce: You can use any BBQ sauce flavor that you want, from fancy brands such as Gayle’s Sweet N’ Sassy BBQ sauce or even a Keto (or low carb) BBQ sauce.

How long do chicken drumsticks take in an air fryer?

Do you have an air fryer? If not, you need to get one! They are fantastic for making quick and healthy meals. You can air fry up chicken drumsticks in about 25 to 30 minutes, depending on how large (thick) the chicken drumsticks are.

Remember to use a meat thermometer, check the internal temperature, and make sure it’s 165 degrees F before removing them.

Can you put frozen chicken in an air fryer?

Poultry is a versatile meat that can be cooked in many different ways. Some people might wonder if it’s possible to cook frozen chicken in an air fryer. The answer is yes – you can cook frozen chicken in an air fryer, and it will turn out delicious!

The cooking time will be increased; remember to use a meat thermometer, check the internal temperature, and make sure it’s 165 degrees F before removing them.

Make These Air Fryer Chicken Legs in Advance

Make ahead: You can prepare the chicken legs in advance and place the flour and seasonings into a large Ziplock bag, and when you are ready to cook them up, put them into the air fryer basket.

Storing: Let any leftovers cool to room temperature and then place them into an airtight container. They will last for about 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator.

Freeze: You can keep these chicken legs in the freezer for three months. Allow them to thaw overnight in the refrigerator and cook in the air fryer for a great and delicious quick meal.
