  • T Bone Steaks: T bone steak comes from the rib section of the cow and features two distinct cuts of meat: a tenderloin on one side and a flavorful strip steak on the other. The bone runs through the middle, giving it a unique shape and adding to the flavor.
  • Olive Oil: A drizzle of olive oil enhances the flavor and creates a crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender and juicy.
  • Salt & Pepper: Simple yet essential. The salt draws out the steak’s natural juices, while the black pepper adds just the right amount of spice.
  • Gorgonzola Butter: A rich and creamy blend of butter and Gorgonzola cheese, perfect for topping your steak.

How to Cook Air Fryer T Bone

Cooking T bone steak in the air fryer is easier than you might think! Follow my simple, step-by-step guide below to get a perfectly cooked steak every time.

Step 1: Prepare the steaks

Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. Rub both sides with olive oil, then season generously with salt and black pepper.

Step 2: Preheat the air fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F for about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Air fry

Place the steaks in the air fryer basket or tray. Set the air fryer to cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping the steaks halfway through for even cooking.

Step 4: Rest the steaks

Remove the steaks from the air fryer and let them rest for about 4 minutes before serving. This helps the juices redistribute for a tender, flavorful steak.

Step 5: Make Gorgonzola butter

In a small bowl, combine the Gorgonzola cheese and butter, mixing well.

You can serve it right away, or for a more convenient option, roll the mixture in plastic wrap to form a log. Place it in the freezer to chill, then slice off a few pieces for each serving.

Step 6: Serve

Plate the air fryer T bone steaks, top with slices of chilled Gorgonzola butter, and pair with delicious sides like Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes, Air Fryer Potato Wedges, or Air Fryer Weight Watchers Sweet Potatoes.

Steak Temperature

The best way to ensure your T bone in the air fryer is fully cooked is by using a meat thermometer. Insert it into the thickest part of the steak, avoiding the bone, to check the internal temperature.

The USDA Food Drug and Safety Administration  provides the following guidelines for steak doneness:

  • Rare: 125 degrees F
  • Medium Rare: 135 degrees F
  • Medium: 145 degrees F
  • Medium Well: 155 degrees F
  • Well Done: 160 degrees F

T Bone in Air Fryer Pro Tips

  • Let the Steak Rest: Always bring your steak to room temperature before cooking to ensure even cooking throughout. This step is important as it helps the inside cook evenly while the outside sears beautifully.
  • Use a Meat Thermometer: For a perfectly cooked air fryer T bone steak, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. It takes the guesswork out of cooking and ensures your steak is just how you like it.
  • Season Generously: Don’t be shy with the salt and pepper. A good amount of seasoning brings out the natural flavors of the steak.
  • Flip Halfway: To get an even sear, flip your steak halfway through the cooking time. This ensures both sides are cooked to perfection.
  • Rest Before Serving: Let the steak rest for a few minutes after cooking to allow the juices to redistribute. This makes the steak extra juicy and tender.
  • Experiment with Toppings: Feel free to experiment with your favorite sauces or toppings. Try a balsamic glaze, chimichurri, or a simple garlic butter for different flavors.

Air Fryer T Bone Steak FAQs

Should I marinate a T bone steak?

Marinating a T bone steak is optional since it’s already a tender cut of meat. While marinating can add extra flavor, it’s not necessary for tenderness.

How do I know when my T bone steak is done?

The best way to tell if your steak is done is by using a meat thermometer. For medium rare, aim for 135 degrees F, and for well done, aim for 160 degrees F. Adjust the cooking time based on your preferred doneness.

Why is my air fryer T bone tough?

Overcooking or skipping the resting step can make your steak tough. Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking and let the beef rest after cooking to keep it tender and juicy.

Can I air fry frozen T bone steak?

Yes, you can, but it will take a bit longer. Be sure to check the internal temperature to ensure it reaches your desired doneness.
