Ingredients For the Air Fryer Sweet Potato Nachos Recipe
- Sweet potato waffle fries: Any packaged variety should work well. Frozen waffle fries are the perfect base for this recipe. If you have fresh sweet potatoes, you can use them too! Read below for more info on that!
- Marshmallows: I used mini marshmallows for that perfect chewiness and bite. If you have larger marshmallows, you can chop them up into smaller pieces.
- Butter: For the rich and sweet drizzle.
- Brown sugar: For its rich, caramel-like sweetness. Feel free to use regular white sugar if that’s what you have at hand.
- Walnuts: For a bit of crunch. You could use pecans too.
- Maple syrup: Just a little, for that extra sweetness and flavor.
Variations & Substitutions
- Lend the loaded sweet potato nachos a delightful fall flavor by sprinkling some cinnamon powder and sugar over them. If you want, you could also use some pumpkin pie spice.
- To lend the loaded nachos a bit of chocolate flavor, sprinkle some mini chocolate chips on them after drizzling the butter mixture. Don’t forget to top with some chocolate sauce or hot fudge sauce too!
- To make savory sweet potato nachos in the Air Fryer, simply air fry the waffle fries and top them with savory toppings like sour cream, guacamole, chopped onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, salsa and cheese!
How to Make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Nachos
To make Air Fryer sweet potato nachos, start by preheating the Air Fryer to 400 degrees.
Cook waffle fries: Add the waffle fries into the Air Fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes. Remember to shake the basket halfway through the cooking time.
Top marshmallows: Sprinkle the marshmallows onto the hot waffle fries and set them aside.
Prepare the drizzle: In a small bowl, melt the butter and add brown sugar and maple syrup. Mix well.
Finish up: Drizzle this over the fries and top with walnuts. Transfer this back to the Air Fryer basket and cook again for 2-3 minutes.
Tips & Tricks to Make Sweet Potato Nachos in the Air Fryer
- If you don’t have packaged waffle fries, you can slice sweet potatoes thinly, soak them in some water to remove starch, and air fry them for about 10-15 minutes, until they’re nice and crunchy on the outside.
- Remember to cook them in batches, and don’t overcrowd the basket of your Air Fryer with lots of sweet potatoes. This will cause them to steam, and they won’t crisp up as you want them to.
- The cooking time can depend on the kind of Air Fryer you’re using. Check them at the 10 minute mark to see if they’re done, and if they need a few extra minutes, pop them in again.
Storage Instructions
Refrigeration: If you have any leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should last for 2-3 days.
Reheating: The easiest way to reheat these loaded sweet potato nachos is to air fry them again until they’re crispy. They may take just a few minutes now that they’re already cooked, so keep an eye on them and get them out as soon as they are warmed up. You can also use your microwave to reheat these nachos, but they may not be able to retain that crunchy and crispy texture.

FAQs
Are sweet potato nachos really healthy? Sweet potatoes may be slightly healthier than traditional nachos in the sense that they have more vitamins and antioxidants.
Can I make these sweet potato nachos in advance? I wouldn’t recommend that, as the waffle fries can end up losing their crispness if they’re made in advance. This recipe is quick and easy, and is best made and served fresh.
My sweet potato waffle fries are sticking to the Air Fryer basket. What should I do? It is best to grease the basket with a bit of oil or cooking spray to keep the fries from sticking to them.
Can I layer the Air Fryer basket with parchment paper? Yes, you can totally do that to minimize the sticking and mess and to make cleanup easier.
Can I make sweet potato dessert nachos in the oven? Yes, you can definitely do that too! Just preheat your oven to 400 degrees and cook the fries for 20-25 minutes.
