What are Cream Cheese Wontons Made Of?

Cream cheese wontons are a popular appetizer in Chinese cuisine. They are made of a wrapper that is filled with a mixture of cream cheese, minced shrimp, and chives. The wontons are then boiled or deep-fried until they are golden brown. Cream cheese wontons make a delicious and appetizing snack or side dish.

What are Cream Cheese Wontons Made Of?

  • Wonton Wrappers: These are typically found in the produce department, at your local grocery store, or at the Asian market.
  • Cream Cheese: Use room temperature cream cheese, you can also use flavored cream cheese, for added flavor. My favorite is chive cream cheese!
  • Chives: You can also use diced green onions or scallions.
  • Seasonings and Spices: Garlic Powder, and Onion Powder.

Step One: Prepare The Filling

In a small bowl mix together the cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and diced chives.

Step Two: Fill The Wonton Wrappers

Place your wonton wrapper on a flat surface, then add a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture In the center of the wrapper.

Step Three: Fold The Wonton Wrappers

Fold up the corners, or use the pocket style of folding, here is a great YouTube Video if you have never folded a Rangoon before. I usually brush the edges of the wrapper with water.

Step Four: Air Fry

Place wontons into the air fryer basket, in a single layer, and spray the outside of the wrappers with either nonstick spray, olive oil spray, or brush with olive oil. Set the temperature to 375 degrees f, and set the cooking time for 8-10 minutes. Remove when golden brown.

How To Fold Wontons

Wontons are a popular Chinese Restaurant dish that is often served as an appetizer or snack. There is nothing better at cooking wontons than the air fryer, you will get the perfect appetizer!

To fold a wonton, start by placing a small spoonful of filling onto the center of a wonton wrapper. Next, fold two opposite corners together until they meet in the middle, forming a triangle shape. Finally, fold up the remaining two corners to seal the wonton completely.

Dipping Sauce for Cream Cheese Wontons

Dipping sauces are a must-have for any type of appetizer. They add flavor and can really enhance the taste of whatever you are eating.

Some of my favorite dipping sauce, to go with crispy cream cheese wontons are:

  • Soy Sauce
  • Sweet Chili Sauce
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Duck Sauce
  • Sweet and Sour Sauce

Storage, Freezing, and Reheating

Storage: Let the wontons cool to room temperature, and then place them into an airtight container. They will last in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. If you have any leftover wonton wrappers, wrap them tightly in saran wrap.

Freezer: This is a great appetizer that you can make ahead of time and freeze. Ppreare the cream cheese wontons as called for in the recipe below. Then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet into the freezer, and freezer until they are frozen solid, about 20 to 40 minutes. Remove the frozen wontons and place them into a freezer bag, or freezer-safe container.

Reheating: There is nothing better than reheating fried wontons, to get the crispy again! Set the air fryer to 350 degrees F, and cook for 3-4 minutes or until they are warmed through. To air fry frozen wontons, place the frozen cream cheese wontons into the air fryer basket, spray them with cooking spray, and cook at 400 degrees F, for 8-10 minutes.

How Long To Cook Cream Cheese Wontons In Air Fryer

The average time is 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees F, but it will depend on the air fryer brand. Remember to check on your wontons frequently, as they cook up.

The answer to this question is yes, you can air fry frozen wontons or potstickers with great results! Air frying frozen wontons doesn’t take long and the end result is a crispy, golden-brown snack that’s perfect for parties or game day. Keep reading for tips on how to air fry frozen wontons and a recipe for delicious dipping sauce.

Set the potstickers into the air fryer basket, and set the temperature to 400 degrees F, and cook for 8-10 minutes, for best results brush with olive oil, this will help you get crispy wontons every time!
