If you love roasted red peppers but don’t have time to roast them yourself, consider using an air fryer! Air fryers use hot air and high-speed circulating currents to cook food up to 50% faster than traditional ovens. They are also much lower in fat content, making them a healthier choice for home cooking. If you love great air fryer vegetable side dishes, some of my favorites are Air Fryer Roasted Onions, Air Fryer Stuffed Peppers, and Air Fryer Artichokes.

This is a very easy recipe, with some simple ingredients, and it’s so much better than purchasing a jar at the local grocery store! This might just be the best thing that you make in your air fryer!

Pro Tips:

  • Oil: You do not need to use any oil to get perfectly roasted bell peppers. If you want some black char, or black spots, on the roasted bell pepper, add a couple of minutes of cooking, to the recipe. For the char edges, flip the bell pepper frequently as it cooks up.
  • Seasoning: Add some garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, sea salt, or black pepper.
  • Cutting: While I do recommend cutting the bell pepper, you can roast the whole pepper, but frequently flip the bell pepper, so you get perfect charred edges around the entire pepper.

Are roasted red peppers the same as bell peppers

Yes, roasted red peppers and bell peppers are the same things.

Bell peppers come in a variety of colors, including red, green peppers, yellow peppers, orange, and even purple. These colors refer to the ripeness of bell pepper – when bell peppers are less ripe, they will be green in color. As they mature and become riper, their color will change to the other aforementioned colors. The internal structure of bell peppers can also differ – while green bell peppers are simply unripe red or yellow bell peppers, they contain more seeds than the sweeter and more mature varieties. Bell peppers are often roasted in order to unlock their deep, rich flavors, which is when they are referred to as “roasted red peppers” or just simply “sweet red peppers.”

Why do you have to peel roasted peppers?

Peeling roasted peppers is necessary because the skin of a roasted pepper is tough and fibrous, making it difficult to eat. To make roasted peppers more palatable, you will typically need to peel away the tough outer layer before eating. Luckily, this process is quick and easy, requiring nothing more than your fingers or a knife.

How long do homemade roasted peppers last

Homemade roasted peppers are a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes. They can last for up to 10 days when stored properly, making them an ideal choice for meal prepping or stocking your fridge with healthy snacks!

A great way to preserve them is to put them into an airtight container. They will last for about 3-5 days in the refrigerator.

What to use roasted red peppers for

Roasted peppers are versatile ingredients that can add a lot of flavor and texture to any dish. Whether you’re making a simple sandwich or using the peppers in an elaborate pasta sauce, they will be sure to elevate the flavor of whatever you’re cooking!

Serve with a drizzle of your favorite oil and some balsamic vinegar for a perfect low-carb hack; this is a great healthy side dish! You can also make this into a quick dip, served with some Air Fryer Tortilla Chips!
