How to Make Red Robin’s Copycat Pretzel Bites Recipe

Step 1: Start by activating the yeast in warm water with a bit of sugar. Let it sit for a few minutes until it looks foamy and bubbly. That’s your sign it’s alive and ready to work.

Step 2: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt, then pour in the yeast mixture. Knead until you get a soft, elastic dough that’s smooth and slightly tacky but not sticky. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour a tablespoon at a time.

Step 3: Cover the dough and let it rise until it doubles in size. This usually takes about 45-60 minutes depending on your kitchen temperature. Don’t rush this step, this is what gives you soft, fluffy pretzel bites.
Step 4: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and cut it into small bite-sized pieces. Try to keep them similar in size so they cook evenly in the air fryer.

Step 5: Now for that classic pretzel flavor: mix warm water with baking soda and quickly dip each dough piece. This is the shortcut version of the traditional pretzel boil and still gives you that signature golden crust.

Step 6: Preheat your air fryer to 325–350°F. Place the pretzel bites in a single layer in the basket, leaving space so they can puff up properly.
Step 7: Air fry for 6–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they’re golden brown and cooked through. Every air fryer is a little different, so keep an eye on them toward the end.
Step 8: As soon as they come out, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt while they’re still warm. Serve immediately with cheese dip, mustard, or your favorite sauce.

Red Robin’s Copycat Pretzel Bites Recipe Tips
- Don’t skip the rise time: A full dough rise is what gives you soft, fluffy pretzel bites instead of dense dough balls.
- Keep bite sizes even: Cut the dough into similar pieces so everything cooks at the same speed in the air fryer.
- Use the baking soda dip: Even a quick dip helps create that classic pretzel color and chewy crust.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer: Space them out so they puff up properly and crisp evenly.
- Brush butter while hot: Melted butter sticks better when the pretzels are fresh out of the air fryer.
- Salt immediately: Coarse salt sticks best right after cooking before the surface cools.
- Watch the last few minutes: Air fryers vary, so check early to avoid over-browning.
- Serve fresh for best texture: Pretzel bites are softest and best right after cooking.
Storing, Freezing and Reheating Instructions
- Storing: Store leftover pretzel bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer freshness, keep them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freezing: Freeze fully cooled pretzel bites in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2 months. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Reheating: Reheat in the air fryer at 325°F for 3–5 minutes until warm and soft. You can also microwave them for 20–30 seconds, but the air fryer keeps them crispier.

Red Robin’s Copycat Pretzel Bites Recipe Faqs
Can I make the dough ahead of time? Yes, you can prepare the dough and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Just bring it back to room temperature before shaping and cooking.
Do I have to use the baking soda bath? Yes, it’s what gives pretzels their classic chewy texture and golden color. Skipping it will make them more like bread rolls.
Can I bake them instead of using an air fryer? Absolutely, bake at 400°F for about 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on them so they don’t over-brown.
Why are my pretzel bites dense? This usually happens when the dough doesn’t rise long enough or the yeast isn’t activated properly. Make sure your yeast is foamy before mixing.
How do I keep them soft after cooking? Brush them with melted butter right away and store them in an airtight container. Reheat briefly in the air fryer to bring back softness.
What dips go best with pretzel bites? Cheese sauce, spicy mustard, ranch, and even honey butter all work great. They’re super versatile and pair with both sweet and savory dips.
