Pro Tips:

  • This recipe will work in various air fryers, including both the Air Fryer Basket and Oven Models. This recipe will also work in the Ninja Foodi, Instant Pot Vortex, Instant Pot Crisp Lid, and Mealhty Lid. The recipe will remain the same, and the cooking time may vary.
  • Do not crowd the basket. Otherwise, they will not cook up properly or evenly. For best results, leave space around the Air Fryer Pretzel Cheese Dogs.
  • If you find that the Cresent Dough is sticking to the Air Fryer Basket, either spray the basket with cooking spray or use a piece of parchment paper.
  • Depending on what air fryer you own, you may need to flip them halfway during the cooking process.

Making Ahead

This is a straightforward recipe that you can prepare ahead of time. I always assemble them in the morning on the day that I want to consume them.

To make and store, assemble as directed below, then place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

Cover very tightly so that the crescent dough does not dry out.

How To Freeze

These are a great snack or meal to stock your freezer with. To freeze, assemble as directed below. Place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze until frozen solid. Then remove them and place them into a freezer-safe container or freezer bag.

They will last for about 2 to 3 months. You can cook from frozen or defrost in the refrigerator overnight.

Variations:

Since food allergies are very common, I wanted to give you a few variations on these.

Hot Dogs: You can use any hot dog or sausage for this recipe. So, whether you want to use Prime Beef, Angus Beef, Beef, or Turkey, the recipe will work the same.

If you are vegan, you can use Beyond Meat (Sausage) or another vegan option.

Cheese: Today, I used a simple cheddar cheese stick, but there are many variations. Some great kinds are mozzarella cheese sticks, Kroger Pepper Jack, Sargento Colby Jack Cheese, and Cracker Barrel Cheddar and Colby Jack.

If you want to omit the cheese or use a Lactose-Free Cheese, some good ones to try are Galbani’s Lactose-Free String Cheese. This Lactose-Free Cheese is available in a variety of flavors, including Mozzarella String Cheese and Cheddar Cheese.

Toppings: Today, I used simple egg wash and sea salt, but a great way to elevate this even more is by using Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.
