How To Air Fry Tortilla Chips

stack of corn tortillas for gluten free chips

Step 1: Lay out tortillas

Spray each tortilla with olive oil spray, then sprinkle some salt on top.

Stack the tortillas on top of each other as evenly as possible.

Step 2: Slice into wedges

Use a pizza cutter to cut the stack of tortillas into triangles. I like to cut mine into sixths, but you can slice them into quarters for larger chips or eights for smaller chips.

Meanwhile, spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray and preheat for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Step 3: Add tortilla chips to air fryer

Arrange the tortilla chips in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You will most likely need to work in batches so the chips don’t overlap.

Cook for 5-7 minutes at 350 degrees F, flipping halfway with a pair of tongs. Then, remove the tortilla chips from air fryer and allow them to cool on a dish towel or paper towels.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tortilla Chips In Air Fryer

How long does it take to air fry tortilla chips?

Generally, air fry tortilla chips take about 5-7 minutes at 350 degrees F. Gluten-free chips will have the best crispy texture because they are made from corn tortillas.

It may be possible to use flour tortillas instead, but they tend to burn before they get crispy enough to make a sound chip. Feel free to experiment with different times and temperatures, and let us know how it goes in the comments!

Can I make chips with homemade tortillas?

I have only ever made this tortilla chips air fryer recipe with store-bought corn tortillas, but I don’t see why you couldn’t use homemade tortillas!

Just ensure they are fully cooled, and you may want to wait a day or two to let them dry out first.

How long do homemade tortilla chips last?

These gluten-free tortilla chips will be kept for about a week in an airtight container or zippered storage bag at room temperature.

I recommend adding a layer of paper towels in the container to soak up any oil or moisture, which will help to keep your gluten-free chips fresh and crispy. If that fails, pop your tortilla chips in the air fryer for a few minutes to crisp them right back up!
