Remember the step-by-step directions and detailed ingredient list are below, in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, as well as the nutritional information.

  • Flounder Fillets: Known for their mild flavor and tender texture, they are ideal for air frying and easily complemented by various seasonings.
  • Buttermilk or Olive Oil: Use buttermilk for a tangy, tenderizing marinade or olive oil to coat the fish before dredging. Both add moisture and enhance the crispiness of the air fryer.
  • All-Purpose Flour: When combined with other ingredients, this flour provides a light and crispy coating for the fish, ensuring a golden and crunchy exterior after air frying.
  • Cornstarch: Adds extra crispiness to the fish coating, creating a delicate and crunchy texture that contrasts with the tender flesh inside.
  • Spices (Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Smoky Paprika, Red Pepper, and Black Pepper): Create a flavorful seasoning blend with garlic powder, parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, onion powder, and smoky paprika for depth of flavor, and red and black pepper for a hint of heat and added complexity.
  • Cooking Spray: Lightly coat the air fryer basket or fish fillets with cooking spray to prevent sticking and promote even browning during the air frying. This will result in perfectly cooked, golden-brown fish.

Step 4: Place Fillets in the Air Fryer

Place the seasoned flounder fillets in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. If necessary, cook the fillets in batches.

Step 5: Air Fry the Fillets

Air fry the flounder fillets at 400 degrees F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time. The exact cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets and your air fryer model.

Step 6: Remove and Serve

Please remove the flounder from the air fryer once it is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork. Serve the cooked flounder immediately with lemon wedges for squeezing over the top and your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce, fresh lemon wedges, fresh lemon juice, hot sauce, or remoulade, on the side.

Enjoy your deliciously crispy air-fried flounder as a main dish or as part of a seafood platter!

How To Make This In An Air Fryer Oven

If you want to prepare this but cook it in an air fryer oven, that is simple. Just preheat your oven to 475 degrees F.

Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray, then place your prepared fish fillets on top of the baking sheet. Set cook time for 10-15 minutes. Remove when the internal temperature of the flounder fish reaches

Air Fryer Flounder Pro Tips

  • Oil the Fish Before Cooking: Coat your fish with cooking spray. Otherwise, you will get a lot of white spots or dark brown patches. You want the entire coating to be sprayed with cooking spray.
  • No Overcrowding: Do not crowd the basket. Otherwise, your fish will not crisp up correctly.
  • Thaw the Fish: Thawed fish works the best. Although you can quickly air fry up frozen fish, it is tough to batter frozen fish. So, try to use thawed fish.
  • Pat the Fish Dry: Dry the fish well with paper towels so the coating sticks.

How To Store Leftover Air Fryer Flounder Fish

If you have any leftover fish, let it cool to room temperature and then place the leftover flounder into an airtight container. Place the container in the refrigerator; it will last about 2-3 days.

How To Cook Frozen Flounder In Air Fryer

Place the frozen flounder filets into the air fryer basket, set the temperature to 400 degrees F, and set the cooking time for 12-15 minutes.

How To Reheat Flounder Fish In Air Fryer

If you have leftovers that you would like to reheat, you can either microwave them or return them to the air fryer. Place your leftover flounder fish in the air fryer basket, spray it with cooking spray, and reheat at 350 degrees F, air fryer setting for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway.
