Easy Air Fryer Donuts
This recipe has evolved over the years. I first posted this in 2017, but I found a few hacks over the years, and I wanted to share how I get them from tasting likes biscuits to tasting like donuts.
I have created many homemade donut recipes over the years, but it appears that, while the real donuts (with yeast) taste better, this is still one of the most popular recipes. My thought is that it is SO EASY. SO EASY!
What Are The Best Biscuits To Use
For making biscuits, you want to steer away from using the pull-apart flakey biscuits. Reach for a classic biscuit in the tube. Any brand will work. You can even venture out and do a cinnamon roll donut; they work just as good as biscuits.
What Ingredients Do I Need To Make Air Fryer Donut Recipe
- 1 can of biscuits (found in the refrigerator section)
- Olive oil Spray
- Melted Butter
- Powdered Sugar
- Milk
How to Make Quick Air Fryer Donuts,
- Take the biscuits out of the can.
- Use a biscuit cutter and cut the center out.
- Dip the biscuits into melted butter, and leave for about a minute or two.
- Spray your air fryer basket with olive oil.
- Set your soaked biscuits into the air fryer basket.

Topping Variations To Biscuit Donuts
When they come out hot, roll in a cinnamon and sugar mixture. If it doesn’t fully stick, brush with butter to help the mixture stick to the donut.
- Make chocolate or even maple glaze to dip donuts in.
- Let the donuts cool slightly, then roll in powdered sugar.
- Eat them plain
- Etc
There are so many ways to dress up and serve these air fryer donuts. They are so easy but so addictive to eat.
What To Do With The Holes Left From Biscuit Dough
Don’t throw away the donut holes you cut in the biscuits. Save them and cook them all at once in the air fryer as well. They are bite-sized donuts that melt in your mouth. The cooking time will be less as it is a smaller size. Just keep an eye on your donut holes, and pull out when they are looking done.
Expert Tips
- You can use a small shot glass or anything round to make the center hole if you don’t have a cookie-cutter.
- Make sure to leave space between each donut so they cook evenly in the air fryer.
Feel free to check on the donuts, and flip to ensure they are cooking evenly. Depending on how your air fryer cooks, you might need to extend or pull donuts at a different time than in the recipe card. - Feel free to change up the glaze if you want a different flavor.
- Cook extra donuts and just place the cooked donuts on a cooling rack in a single layer to prevent donuts from sogging up.
Storing Leftover Donuts
You will find these donuts are best when served warm and fresh. But if you have extras, go ahead and let your donuts cool and then store them in an airtight container.
You can store your donuts at room temperature on the counter for a day or two. Or you can freeze your donuts as well. The donuts will freeze for up to 2-3 months when stored properly.
Can You Use Frozen Dough For These Donuts?
Yes, I have had similar results with Pillsbury Frozen Biscuits and generic frozen biscuits.
