Today, I used sour cream to really enhance the chocolate flavor of these donuts, which really brings out the chocolate flavor in the donuts.

I also chilled the dough, which helped the batter firm up a bit, if you are in a rush, you don’t need to do that, although the donut won’t be as moist.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Butter
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Brown Sugar
  • Egg
  • Pure Vanilla Extract
  • Sour Cream
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Cornstarch
  • Salt

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugars, then add the egg and vanilla extra, mix well, then fold in the sour cream. In another bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Mix well.

Combine the wet mixture into the dry mixture, place the batter into the refrigerator, for about an hour to chill up.

Spray the donut molds with cooking spray, and then pour the batter into the donut cavity, filling about 2/3 the way full. Set into the air fryer for 10-12 minutes at 320 degrees F, air fryer sitting, until the donuts are done baking.

When the donuts have cooled, remove them from the donut mold, and start making the glaze.

To Make the Glaze: In a large saucepan, add the heavy cream, and bring to a light simmer, and then mix in the chocolate chips, mix well, remove from heat, and mix in the butter. Continue to whisk until smooth.

Dip the donut into the chocolate glaze and immediately, then sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Homemade Donuts

  • Let the dough chill for about 30 to 60 minutes, before air frying, this will really let the dough firm up.
  • Make sure that you fully coat the donut mold with cooking spray, before filling the mold, this way the donut will pop out.
  • Cover the donut with sprinkles, while the frosting is wet, otherwise the sprinkles will not stick.
  • Store any uneaten donut in an airtight container, so they do not dry out.
