Air Fryer Crab Stuffed Mushrooms — We are sorry to say that these are not actually fried- they’re cooked in an air fryer! These stuffed mushrooms make for a great appetizer or side dish. You can even use them as the base of a sandwich and top it with some lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

Air Fryer Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

Air Fryer Crab Stuffed Mushrooms are the perfect appetizer for the holiday season. They are extremely simple to make and crisp up perfectly in the air fryer. If you love mushrooms, you will absolutely love this recipe; nothing beats air fryer mushrooms.

Within minutes you can have a great and simple air fryer stuffed with mushrooms. They taste amazing, something you would get at a fancy party, but with the air fryer, you can have these any time. These are sure to be a hit. Who doesn’t love mushrooms that taste like crab?

I think everyone who has an air fryer loves the variety of appetizers you can prepare in the air fryer, and most of them take minutes. Here are some of my favorite air fryer appetizers–

  • Air Fryer Homemade Onion Rings
  • Easy Air Fryer Calamari
  • Air Fryer Loaded Waffle Fries
  • There are so, so many more, on my appetizer page–

There is nothing better than biting into a stuffed mushroom and getting a great crab flavor with the roasted mushroom’s sweet taste.

How To Clean Mushrooms

When you purchase mushrooms from the store, you still need to clean them. To prepare them for this recipe, use a sharp knife to cut off the stem. Usually, you can remove your mushroom caps with your hands.

Since mushrooms are sponge-like, you do not want to soak them in water. Otherwise, they will become waterlogged.

To clean, use a wet paper towel and wipe the mushrooms down. If you want, you can add the mushrooms to a colander and rinse them.

How To Cook Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

They are actually really easy to prepare, once you clean the mushrooms.

  • Combine the filling in a small mixing bowl, and then place it back into the mushroom cavity.
  • Spray your air fryer basket with olive oil spray.
  • Then place the stuffed mushrooms into the greased air fryer.
  • Spray the tops of the mushrooms with olive oil.
  • Set the temperature to 350 degrees F, air fryer setting, for 8 to 12 minutes.
  • If you want to add some cheese, sprinkle the shredded cheese on, and then air fry for another 1 to 2 minutes, until the cheese has melted.
  • Plate, serve, and enjoy!

What Is The Best Crab To Use For Air Fryer Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

While you can use fresh crab meat, you can also make this recipe using imitation crab stuffed mushroom recipe.

Using Canned Crab Meat:

  • I usually use canned crab meat; you can use either jumbo lump, claw meat, or a combination of both.
  • I would make sure that all of the crab meat is about the same size, so your mushrooms cook evenly.

Using Fresh Crab Meat:

  • This will make this air fryer dish a bit more difficult, but if you have leftover crab from Air Fryer Crab Legs, this would be a great recipe to use leftovers for. The two most popular crabs to be used for meat would be snow crab, Alaskan King Crab, or even Blue Crab. It will really depend on where you live and what is available.
  • My advice would be really shredding the meat, so it easily fits into the mushroom.

What Kind Of Mushrooms

I have prepared these using both white button mushrooms and large Portobello mushrooms.

Since I am making these as an appetizer, today I went with a small white button mushroom.

What Can You Do With Leftover Filling

If you have any leftover filling. You can use it in a variety of ways. My favorite would be to smear it over a piece of garlic bread and then toast it. It’s amazing and a great snack that you can have while you get ready for your guests.

Depending on how much you stuff your mushrooms, you will probably have some leftovers.

Tips For Making The Best Air Fryer Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

  • Use fresh crab meat in this recipe. Imitation crab meat will not crisp up as nicely as the real crab meat.
  • If you want to switch out the flavoring, I have used lobster meat and diced shrimp.
  • Either use panko or bread crumbs. Either works and is interchangeable in this recipe.
  • If you want to add some kick to your mushrooms, add some cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper.

How to Make Air Fryer Gluten Free Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

If you want to make these gluten-free, just substitute the breadcrumbs with a gluten-free bread crumb. My favorite gluten-free bread crumbs are (affiliate link) Michelle Farms Gluten-Free Bread Crumbs.

Then follow the instructions exactly the same. they will taste exactly the same.

Can You Make These In Advance

Yes, they are a great appetizer to make ahead. After you assemble them, place them on a baking sheet, and pop them into the refrigerator. This is a great idea. If you’re having many people over, you can literally just air fry them as you serve them. This way, every guest receives a few hot air fryer crab-stuffed mushrooms.

When you are ready to air fry them up, just add them to the air fryer basket.

Can I Freeze Stuffed Mushrooms?

Yes, these are a great appetizer to freeze, especially if you are having a large gathering. Assemble them as the recipe states, but then get them ready for freezing.

  • How To Freeze Stuffed Mushrooms: Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, then stick the baking sheet into the freezer. When they are frozen solid, transfer them to a freezer bag or freezer-safe container.
  • To Reheat Them In The Air Fryer: Place them directly from the freezer to the air fryer. Set the temperature to 370 degrees F, air fryer setting for 10 to 12 minutes.

What Is An Air Fryer?

If you are still wondering if you should purchase an air fryer, an air fryer is a simple appliance that uses hot air to cook food. An air fryer works because it circulates hot air around the basket to cook the food.

This recipe will work with all air fryers, including the Mealthy Crisp Lid, Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid, Power XL, and even the new Blackstone Grill with Built-in Air Fryers.

Can You Bake These In The Oven?

Absolutely, all you need to do is preheat the oven to 375 degrees F, then place the crab-stuffed mushroom on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden brown.
