Yummy! Homemade Air Fryer Blueberry Scones with Vanilla Glaze, does breakfast get better than this?
These make an amazing and fun breakfast. If you have never made scones in the oven or the air fryer, they are very simple. It is sort of like making a muffin; you add it to the muffin tin today. You use a silicone scone pan. If you do not have a scone pan, make the batter into a large circle and use a knife to cut them into wedges.
I love a great and easy breakfast, and scones and blueberries happen to be some of my favorites. What Are Scones?
Scones in American are fruit (sweet) or savory, usually cut or shaped into wedges. They are sweeter than the British counterpart, which also calls a scone, but Americans refer to them as biscuits. British folks also refer to them as tea cakes.
They are typically thought of as dry biscuits, not true; they only get dried out if you mix them or overbaked them.
Ingredients For Air Fryer Blueberry Scones
- All-Purpose Flour
- Granulated Sugar
- Baking Powder
- Pure Vanilla Extract
- Powdered Sugar
Note: Using cold or frozen butter really is important in preparing scones, as the cold/frozen butter gives it a flaky texture, which is important to the scone.
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER BLUEBERRY SCONES
Start by mixing the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the butter, egg, and milk. Mix well.
Fold in the blueberries.
Spray your mold (see post for the mold I used). Add your batter to the mold. Place the mold into the air fryer basket. Set the temperature to 340 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Mix until it’s well combined.
Drizzle the icing over the scones.
HOW DO I GET MY SCONES NOT TO BE SO HARD?
There are really only two reasons why scones end up hard, they are overmixed, or you have overbaked them.
When you overmix baked goods, the gluten gets a release, which will make your baked goods dense and hard. So, once the batter is mixed, set it aside. There is no reason to keep on mixing batter that is already well combined.
The other reason why your Air Fryer Blueberry Scones will become hard is that you have overbaked them. I usually start checking them at around minute 8 and decide how much longer they need to cook.
The exact time will depend on your air fryer, so make sure to check your Air Fryer Blueberry Scones frequently during the cooking process. Use a toothpick to test to see if the inside is done.
CAN I ADD OTHER FRUIT BESIDES BLUEBERRIES?
Yes, you can add any fruit that is in season or that you like. I also like using dried fruits and nuts.
Remember to cut your fresh fruit into smaller pieces. This is important if you are using peaches or apples.
WHAT DO YOU PUT ON A SCONE?
Traditionally the English put on lemon curd, jam, or butter. In America, we typically ice our scones, which means you really do not need to put anything on your scones.
The icing, although simple, will provide you enough flavor and sweetness that you really do not need o put anything on your scone. They will be absolutely delicious.
