These scones are perfect for breakfast on cold mornings or as a snack during the holiday season. You can even make them into cookies!

WHAT ARE SCONES?

Scones are a favorite treat for breakfast or tea time. They are often served with jam and clotted cream but can be enjoyed plain as well. Scones have been around since the 16th century in Great Britain, where they are known as “biscuits.”

The word biscuit comes from the French word “bis” meaning twice or two times, because these scones were baked twice to give them their distinct crunchy texture on top and bottom. While there is some debate about the origins of sconces, it’s clear that they have become a classic pastry loved by many!

Scones are a delicious treat that is perfect for any occasion! So, this h holiday season, surprise your guests and serve these Air Fryer Gingerbread Scones for breakfast or a dessert at the end of your Christmas Dinner!

WHAT IS GINGERBREAD?

Gingerbread is typically either served as a cookie, cake, or in our case today, a scone. Since Gingerbread can be made in different shapes and designs. Gingerbread has been around for centuries and was initially used as a medicine, but now it is primarily eaten as a dessert or snack.

Gingerbread dates back to the Middle Ages when ginger was often used to help with upset stomachs. Some say that gingerbread began as early as the 8th century BC by Greeks who placed honey on cakes containing ground ginger, flour, and oil (ingredients still found in some recipes). In Europe during medieval times, spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg were added along with other ingredients like eggs and bread crumbs making the cake more of a biscuit than what we know today as “gingerbread.”

Pro Tips:

Butter: Butter is a crucial ingredient in making scones. The best thing is to either freeze the butter or use it straight from the refrigerator. Either way, cold. That is the great secret to getting a flaky scone.

Mix Dry Ingredients: Combine all of the dry ingredients. All scones have the same essential ingredients, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Note: If you use salted butter, do not add salt, the scones will come out too salty.

How To Cut The Butter Into The Scones

There’s nothing like the smell of fresh scones in the morning. The butter (cold) makes your scone unique. The butter will melt as it cooks up, creating a moist, tender, and delicious scone.

You can either use a food processor, Kitchen Aid Mixer, or your food grater to cut the butter into the gingerbread scones. This is the key to a light scone!

Can I Make The Dough In Advance?

Yes, you can make this dough in advance. Then cover and refrigerate until you are ready to cook up the gingerbread scones!

How To Store:

It is effortless to make scones in advance. Just prepare your dough, and you can either store the dough in a sealed container or shape the scones and then wrap them in saran wrap. This makes for a great breakfast that you can prepare the night before and then bake up in the air fryer in the morning!

Freezing Scones: If you are looking for a recipe that you can freeze, you can also freeze the baked scones. Then when you want a quick breakfast, pop the frozen scone into the oven or air fryer and heat them.

What Scone Pans Can I Use In The Air Fryer?

If you’re a cook, chances are you love to bake. Cooking is only half the game; it’s also about cooking healthy and delicious food that your family will love. You might be wondering what kinds of pans I can use in my air fryer?

For scones, I have found a couple of options, one is perfect for an air fryer basket model, and the other is great for an Air Fryer Oven Model. Here are my suggestions:

Baking Molds Triangle Cavity Silicone 8 Red Silicone Portion Cake Mold Soap Mould Pizza Slices Pan/Scone Pan/Combread Brownies Muffins Mold –You can use this pan in an air fryer. Since it’s made of silicone, you can easily cut the molds out, which will fit any air fryer. Great for any air fryer, basket, or oven style.
