We’ve all been there: you grab a “healthy” snack at 3 p.m., and by 3:45 you’re back in the pantry. The problem usually isn’t willpower. The snack just didn’t have enough protein to stick with you. Protein digests slowly and helps you feel satisfied longer, which is why a handful of crackers disappears so fast and a couple of egg cups carries you to dinner.

I pulled together 25 of my favorite snacks from right here on Fork To Spoon that are light on calories and big on protein. Most of them use the air fryer, a few use the Ninja Creami, and nearly all of them can be prepped ahead so a good snack is ready when hunger hits. Some are savory, some are sweet, and some are crunchy enough to replace a bag of chips.

14. Air Fryer Garlic and Lemon Shrimp

Preparation: If you're using wooden skewers, begin by soaking them in water for at least 20-30 minutes. This will prevent them from burning in the air fryer. In a large bowl, add the shrimp, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, paprika, dried oregano, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until the shrimp are well coated in the seasoning. Thread about 4-6 shrimp onto each skewer (depending on the size of your shrimp and the length of your skewers). Cooking: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3-5 minutes. Arrange the shrimp skewers in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Be careful not to overcrowd them; depending on the size of your air fryer, you might need to cook the shrimp skewers in batches. Cook the shrimp skewers at 400°F (200°C) for 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through. Carefully remove the shrimp skewers from the air fryer (they'll be hot!) Serving: Serve the shrimp skewers hot with your choice of garnishes, such as freshly chopped parsley, additional lemon wedges, or a drizzle of melted butter. Enjoy your Air Fryer Grilled Shrimp Skewers!

Shrimp is one of the leanest proteins around, and it cooks in minutes. Tossed with lemon, garlic, and parsley, these are delicious warm or chilled. You can even cook them straight from frozen.

Tips for Snacks That Actually Keep You Full

Pair protein with fiber. Add veggies, berries, or edamame to your protein for staying power without many extra calories.

Prep once, snack all week. Hard boiled eggs, egg cups, meatballs, chicken bites, and jerky all keep well in the fridge.

Watch your dippers and toppings. A light snack can turn heavy fast with crackers, sugary glazes, or creamy sauces. Veggies and Greek yogurt dips are your friends.

Check the recipe card. Calories and protein vary with brands and portion sizes, so use each recipe’s nutrition info as your guide.
