How To Make Air Fryer Swiss Steak

Step One: Cut the steak into serving-sized pieces. If desired, tenderize by pounding with a meat mallet.

Step Two: In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Dredge each steak piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Set your air fryer temperature to 400 degrees F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes.

Step Three: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated steak pieces inside, drizzle with olive oil, and air fry with a cook time for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.

Step Four: Remove the steak from the air fryer and layer diced tomatoes, sliced onions, bell peppers, and Italian seasoning on top. Return the steak to the air fryer and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the steak is fully cooked.
Step Five: Let the steak rest for a few minutes before serving. Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish!

Air Fryer Swiss Steak Recipe Tips
- Choose the Right Cut of Steak – While round steak is ideal, you can also use other cuts like chuck or sirloin. Just make sure to adjust cooking time based on thickness.
- Tenderizing the Steak – If you want extra tenderness, use a meat mallet to pound the steak before dredging it in flour. This helps break down the fibers for a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
- Seasoning Variations – Feel free to customize the seasoning. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a bit of heat or experiment with other herbs like rosemary or thyme for a different flavor profile.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Basket – For the best crispy crust, arrange the steak pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. If needed, cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Check Steak Doneness – Use a meat thermometer to ensure your steak reaches the desired doneness. The internal temperature should be 145°F for medium-rare, 160°F for medium, and 170°F for well-done.
- Customizing Toppings – While tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers are classic toppings, you can add mushrooms, zucchini, or even a sprinkle of cheese for extra flavor.
- Resting the Steak – After removing the steak from the air fryer, let it rest for a few minutes to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist and flavorful steak.
Storing
- Storing: Store any leftover Air Fryer Swiss Steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Be sure to keep the steak and vegetables separate if possible to maintain the best texture.
- Reheating: Reheat the steak in the air fryer at 350°F for 4-5 minutes or until heated through. You can also use the microwave, but the air fryer will help maintain the steak’s texture.
- Freezing: To freeze, wrap the cooled Swiss steak tightly in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating in the air fryer or oven.
