Why This Recipe Works!

  • Perfect Cooking: Swai is more delicate than Catfish, so the air fryer prevents it from falling apart compared to pan frying.
  • No breading needed: Keeps it light, simple, and low-carb without sacrificing flavor.
  • Fast cooking time: The air fryer cooks swai fillets in just minutes.
  • Tender, flaky texture: Hot circulating air locks in moisture while gently crisping the outside.
  • Easy seasoning flexibility: Works with basic spices or bold flavor blends.
  • Minimal cleanup: No oil splatter or messy frying pans to deal with.

How To Make Swai Fish In The Air Fryer

Swai fish fillets brushed with olive oil and seasoned with blackened or Cajun spice mix before cooking in air fryer

Step 1: Start by preheating your air fryer temperature to 390 degrees F. Spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray or line the basket with a silicone reusable air fryer liner. Do not use parchment paper when heating your air fryer. Otherwise, it will pose a fire risk.

Step 2: Brush the olive oil over the fish, and season with the blackened or Cajun seasoning mix. Set the fish into the air fryer basket, and set the cook time for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway.

Easy Swai Fish In Air Fryer Recipe Tips

  • Pat the fish dry before seasoning so it cooks better and doesn’t steam.
  • Don’t skip preheating the air fryer for even cooking and better texture.
  • Brush lightly with oil to help seasoning stick and add crisp edges.
  • Avoid overcrowding the basket so hot air can circulate properly.
  • Flip carefully halfway through for even browning on both sides.
  • Use a meat thermometer if needed—swai is done at 145°F.
  • Keep seasoning simple or bold, but don’t under-season mild fish.
  • Serve immediately for the best flaky texture and flavor.

Storing and Reheating Instructions

  • Storing Instructions: Store leftover air fryer swai in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Let the fish cool completely before storing to keep the texture from becoming soggy.
  • Reheating Instructions: Reheat swai in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes until warmed through. You can also reheat in a skillet over low heat to help maintain its flaky texture.

Air Fryer Swai Recipe Faqs

Do I need to thaw swai before air frying? Yes, for best results. Thaw it completely and pat it dry so it cooks evenly and doesn’t steam.

How do I know when swai is done? The fish should be opaque and flake easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F.

Can I cook swai from frozen in the air fryer? You can, but the texture won’t be as good. It’s better to thaw first for even cooking and better seasoning absorption.

Why is my swai mushy? It’s usually from excess moisture or overcrowding the basket. Always pat it dry and give pieces space.

What seasonings work best? Simple salt, pepper, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, or blackened spice all work well with swai’s mild flavor.

Do I need to flip swai in the air fryer? Yes, flipping halfway helps it cook evenly and get light browning on both sides.

How To Cook Frozen Swai In Air Fryer

Place frozen swai fillets in the air fryer basket and cook at 380°F for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through. Season after the first few minutes of cooking so the spices stick better and the fish finishes tender and flaky.
