Ingredients Needed For Air Fryer Guacamole Stuffed Onion Rings

- Onions
- Guacamole
- All-Purpose Flour
- Black Pepper
- Chili Powder
- Salt
- Buttermilk
- Eggs
- Panko Bread Crumbs
- Non-Stick Cooking Spray
How To Make Air Fryer Guacamole Stuffed Onion Rings

Slice onion crosswise in ½” sections to make rings. Separate the nested rings of each slice. Spray a sheet pan with non-stick cooking spray. Spread onion rings onto the sheet pan. Fill each onion ring with 2-3 tablespoons of guacamole. Spread the guacamole smoothly under the top edge of each ring.

Place the sheet pan with filled onion rings into the freezer and freeze for about 1 hour until the guacamole is solid.

Prepare a standard dredging station. Combine the flour, pepper, chili powder, and salt in a shallow bowl. Beat together the buttermilk and eggs in a second shallow bowl. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl.

Dip each frozen onion ring into the flour mixture, coat with the egg mixture, and cover with the panko. Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray. Place the coated onion rings in the air fryer’s basket and spray liberally with non-stick cooking spray.

Cook at 360°F for 12-14 minutes, until the coating is golden brown and crispy. You can flip the onion rings halfway through cooking for a more evenly browned coating, but this can be a bit tedious as the guacamole heats and softens. The onion rings will cook through without flipping them.

Pro Tips:
- Serve with sour cream and a squeeze of lime juice.
- Onion rings are best eaten just after being cooled while still crispy.
- You can also coat some of the extra onion rings with the same flour-egg-panko mixture and cook them.
- I sprayed the onion rings frequently while they were cooking with nonstick cooking spray – when I opened the basket to check them, I’d give them a quick spray to help with the crisping and browning.
How Thick To Slice Onion Rings
Since you are stuffing these onion rings, I recommend cutting them relatively thick, between 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Then use your hands to separate the onion rings.
Which Onions Are Best For Making Air Fryer Onion Rings?
The best onions for making onion rings are either white or yellow onions. You can also use a sweet onion like Vidalia, Walla Walla, or even Maui.
Since we are stuffing the onion ring for this recipe, I used a regular old white onion. You will not taste much of the onion since the primary flavor is guacamole.
How Long To Cook Onion Rings In The Air Fryer?
I cooked this recipe for about 12 to 14 minutes. The exact time will depend on your air fryer model and your onion rings’ thickness.
For best results, flip them about halfway during the cooking process. This will depend on where your heating element is located on your air fryer.
What Sauces To Serve These With?
I loved serving these with a ranch dressing, but there are so many other options that you can do these Air Fryer Guacamole Stuffed Onion Rings with.
