Frozen Steak in the Air Fryer

We love steak in my house — it’s the ultimate comfort food. After a long day at work (or school for the kids), nothing beats sitting down to a hearty, satisfying meal.

Grilling steak is always a treat, but I don’t always have the time or energy to fire up the grill, especially on busy weeknights when I’ve forgotten to thaw something (it happens!). That’s when my air fryer comes to the rescue!

This frozen steak air fryer recipe is quick, easy, and delivers juicy, flavorful results every time. I usually go with sirloin because it’s a reliable option, but honestly, any cut works great with this method. One tip I’ve learned: preheating the air fryer for just 5 minutes helps the steak cook evenly.

  • Olive Oil: Use a light drizzle of olive oil to help lock in moisture and create a flavorful, crispy crust.
  • Steak Seasoning: This adds bold flavor to your steak! Use your favorite blend, or stick to a classic mix for that perfect steakhouse taste.
  • Salt & Black Pepper: A bit of salt and freshly cracked black pepper bring out the steak’s natural flavors.

How to Cook My Frozen Steak Air Fryer Recipe

Cooking frozen steak in the air fryer is quick and simple! In this step-by-step guide, I’ll show you exactly how to get a juicy, perfectly cooked steak — no thawing required. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Preheat your air fryer

Start by preheating your air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F.

Step 2: Air fry

Place the steaks in the preheated air fryer basket. Brush each side with olive oil, then season generously with salt, pepper, and your favorite steak seasoning. Set the air fryer to 8 minutes.

Step 3: Flip the steak over

Flip the steak over, brush with a little more olive oil, and season again with salt, pepper, and steak seasoning. Air fry for another 5-8 minutes, depending on your preferred doneness.

Step 4: Check the internal temperature

Check the internal temperature of your steak using a meat thermometer. Depending on your preferred level of doneness, your steak may be ready or need a few more minutes.

Here are the internal temperatures for different levels of doneness:

  • Rare: 125 degrees F
  • Medium Rare: 135 degrees F
  • Medium: 145 degrees F
  • Well Done: 160 degrees F and above

Step 5: Rest and serve

Let the steak rest for about 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Once rested, plate it up and enjoy!

Air Fryer Frozen Steak Pro Tips

  • Preheat the Air Fryer: A 5-minute preheat ensures the steak starts cooking immediately, which helps lock in juices.
  • No Need to Thaw: One of the best things about cooking frozen steak in the air fryer is that you don’t need to thaw it first. Simply season and pop it in the air fryer!
  • Season Generously: Since you’re cooking this air fryer steak from frozen, don’t be shy with the seasoning! Apply a generous amount of steak seasoning, salt, and pepper to get the full flavor.
  • Flip Halfway: Flip the steak halfway through cooking to ensure even cooking and a crispy, flavorful crust.
  • Use a Meat Thermometer: For the perfect steak every time, use a meat thermometer. Aim for 135 degrees F for medium rare, or adjust for your preferred doneness.
  • Let It Rest: After cooking, let your steak rest for 3-5 minutes to make it tender and juicy.
  • Try Different Cuts: You can use any steak cut in the air fryer, from sirloin to ribeye to New York strip. Each cut will come out juicy, but experiment to find your favorite!
