What Are Panera Copycat Cinnamon Crunch Bagels?
Panera’s most famous bagel flavor is traditionally made with a yeast dough, which has been infused with the flavors of honey, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon on top!
This creates a perfect sweet bagel recipe!
Ingredients Needed For Air Fryer Panera Copycat Cinnamon Crunch Bagels
Here are the simple ingredients, you will need:
- Self-Rising Flour: Self-rising flour provides the necessary leavening agents, making the bagels light and fluffy.
- Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt adds moisture and a rich, tangy flavor to the bagels, contributing to their soft texture.
- Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds a deep, caramel-like sweetness and a hint of molasses flavor to the bagels.
- Granulated Sugar: Granulated sugar provides a classic sweetness and helps create a crispy, caramelized crust on the bagels.
- Ground Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon imparts a warm, spicy flavor that complements the sweetness and adds a comforting aroma.
How To Make Air Fryer Panera Copycat Cinnamon Crunch Bagels
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
Step One: In a large mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour and yogurt. Use a wooden spoon to combine.
Step Two: Lightly flour your surface and lightly knead the dough. Form into a round, and cut into four pieces.
Step Three: Working with one piece at a time, roll each into a 5- to 7-inch rope and pinch ends together to form a circle. Place a parchment round in my air fryer, or spray your basket with cooking spray. Place the bagels into your air fryer (don’t let them touch, so you may have to do two batches)
Step Four: In a small bowl, mix the sugars and cinnamon. Evenly top the bagels with cinnamon sugar. Get it all on them. Air fry at 350 degrees F, air fryer setting, for 8-10 minutes, checking for doneness.
Panera Copycat Cinnamon Crunch Bagels Recipe Tips
- Use Self-Rising Flour: Self-rising flour simplifies the recipe by including both flour and leavening agents, helping the bagels rise and become light.
- Incorporate Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt adds moisture and tenderness to the bagels, so use full-fat or Greek yogurt for the best results.
- Prepare the Crunch Topping: Ensure the cinnamon-sugar topping is evenly mixed and generously applied for a satisfying crunch and sweet flavor.
- Shape Evenly: Shape the bagels uniformly to ensure they cook evenly. Use a consistent size to achieve a uniform texture.
- Avoid Overcrowding: Place the bagels in a single layer in the air fryer basket with enough space between them to allow for proper air circulation.
- Check for Doneness: Keep an eye on the bagels towards the end of the cooking time to avoid overbaking. They should be golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Cool Properly: Let the bagels cool on a wire rack after air frying to maintain their crispiness and prevent them from becoming soggy.
Panera Cinnamon Crunch Bagel Recipe Faqs
Can I use regular all-purpose flour instead of self-rising flour? Yes, you can use all-purpose flour, but you’ll need to add baking powder and salt to achieve similar leavening effects. For every cup of all-purpose flour, add 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder and 0.5 teaspoons of salt.
Can I substitute Greek yogurt with another type of yogurt? You can use plain yogurt or a dairy-free alternative, but Greek yogurt gives the bagels a thicker texture and richer flavor. If using a different yogurt, choose one with a similar consistency.
How can I make the cinnamon crunch topping more flavorful? You can enhance the topping by adding a pinch of nutmeg or a bit of vanilla extract to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for extra depth of flavor.
How should I store leftover bagels? Store leftover bagels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Reheat in the air fryer or oven to restore their freshness.
Can I prepare the dough in advance? Yes, you can prepare the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. Shape and air fry the bagels just before serving for the best texture and flavor.
What if my bagels are not cooking evenly? Ensure you are not overcrowding the air fryer basket, as this can affect even cooking. Arrange the bagels in a single layer with enough space between them to allow for proper air circulation.
Can I make mini bagels using this recipe? Yes, you can shape the dough into mini bagels. Just adjust the cooking time as smaller bagels will cook faster than regular-sized ones. Check them frequently to avoid overbaking.
What if my bagels turn out too dry? If the bagels are too dry, it may be due to overbaking or not enough moisture in the dough. Follow the recommended cooking time and add more Greek yogurt to the dough to improve moisture.
