How To Make Air Fryer Roasted Peas

Ingredients Needed For This Recipe

  • Frozen or Canned Green Beans, thawed or drained
  • Olive Oil
  • Seasonings: Salt, Garlic Powder, Smoked Paprika

How To Make Air Fryer Green Peas

The key to making crispy air-fried green peas is a lot like making crispy chickpeas, they need to be dried off, and as much moisture needs to be removed from the peas as possible.

Green Peas

I usually take the frozen peas out of the freezer and place them on the counter to thaw them. But if you are in a hurry, just run them under hot water to defrost them, do not cook them in the microwave, as you will end up with dried-out green peas.

Then lay them out on a kitchen towel or on paper towels to allow them to dry. This will only take about 10-15 minutes.

Peas

I usually blot them as I transfer them to a mixing bowl. Then add your olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Make sure that the green peas are fully coated. (This is another key to getting really crunchy green peas)

Then preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F, air fryer setting, spread the peas into the air fryer basket. SEt the time to 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket frequently. If you have an air fryer oven, use a pair of tongs and flip them halfway.

You can really add anything that you want for flavoring. Some of my favorites seasonings are:

Green Pea Nutrition

While these are healthy snacks in any diet, they provide many nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants.

They are also a great source of protein. Green Peas have also been shown to help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

They are also very low in calories and are only 62 calories per half a cup. They also provide many Vitamin A, K, and C. Are rich in Thiamine, Folate, Manganese, Iron, and Phosphorous.

How To Store Roasted Green Peas

If you want to store a batch of roasted green peas, the best thing would be to place them back on a kitchen towel until they have cooled to room temperature.

Then take your room temperature roasted green peas and place them into an airtight container.

They will last between 1 and 3 days. But for best results, they should be eaten on the same day as roasted.

How To Make Air Fryer Green Peas Recipe In The Oven

If you want to prepare this recipe in the oven, all you need to do is prepare as directed in the recipe card below.

Then pop them onto a baking sheet, place the baking sheet into a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes. The key is to shake the baking tray every 8 to 10 minutes, so they get perfectly roasted.

What Kind Of Green Peas Can Be Used?

While today, I used frozen green peas, you can really use any size that you want. There are two widely available kinds sold in the freezer section at most American grocery stores, Petite and regular-sized.

You can also use canned green peas; the key is to fully drain the peas and leave them out longer than frozen peas to get rid of most of the liquid. Usually overnight. You still want to get the driest pea available to air fry up.

If you want to use dried green peas, the best thing would be to microwave them, so they become soft and then just lay them out on kitchen towels until they are fully dried, then continue with the recipe.

What Is The Texture Of The Air Fryer Peas?

While you can truly roast chickpeas and get a great and crunchy texture.

These become dried out and hard; they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. If you are not getting them crisp, remember that you really need to take most of the liquid out of them before air frying them up. And remember that you need to shake the basket several times during the cooking process.

They will never get truly crispy since you are drawing all of the moisture out of the peas. If you are looking for a crispy green pea, I will purchase some of these off Amazon (affiliate link); my kids love them and make a great crispy pea.
