How To Make Air Fryer Cherry Pie Bombs

Place a ½ tbsp of filling in the center of the dough circle. The filling should not reach the edges but stay in the center without too much piling up.

Place another circle of dough over the circle of dough with the filling. Crimp the edges down to seal them. You can use your fingers or a fork. Carefully cut slits at the top of each pie.

Continue this process until you have all your little pies made. In a small bowl, prepare your egg wash by cracking your egg and beating it well. Then, add the tablespoon of water and stir. Brush the egg wash over each pie.  Place the pies a few at a time in the air fryer basket. As these cook, they may ‘ooze’ out a little of their filling, but it won’t be a big issue if you seal the crust well and don’t overfill.

Air fry for about 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees F, air fryer setting. Pies will be golden brown and crispy looking.

While the pies are cooling off, add the powdered sugar and water to a bowl. Stir well. Pour or dip pastries into the glaze once they are completely cooled off.

Pro Tips:

Crowding: For best results, do not crowd the air fryer basket. Otherwise, the dough will not thoroughly cook up. Leave plenty of space in the basket for the hot air to flow, which will cook your pie dough up to perfection!

Flipping: Depending on what air fryer you own, you may need to flip the Cherry Pie Bombs halfway during air frying. It depends on where your heating element is located.

Cooking Cherry Pie Bombs In An Air fryer Oven: If you are making these in an Air Fryer Oven Model, make sure that you place the cherry pie bombs on the lowest shelf so that both the inside and outside will cook up.

Overfilling: You can never have too many cherries! That is unless you overfill the dough and it spills all over. This makes your bomb not as sealing or sturdy, which will lead to leaks and a huge mess in your air fryer!

Ingredient Notes:

Pie Crust: While I used a simple prepared pie crust found in the refrigerator section of your grocery store today, you can use homemade pie crust.

BIscuits: A very common recipe going around the internet is making these with Biscuits. While we all love biscuits, I believe that using a prepared pie crust makes these so much better!

If you want to use biscuits, I recommend using Pillsbury Grands Biscuits, as they are much flakier than other brands.

Crescent Rolls: You can also use crescent rolls for this recipe. It will give you a great morning treat!

Pie Filling: You can use any pie filling that you want. Some common suggestions are Apple, Peach, Blueberry, Raspberry, Lemon, and even Pecan Pie filling!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to the most common questions about this recipe.

What kind of pie dough should I use?

YOu can use any pie crust that you want, homemade or store-bought. I have used Trader Joe’s Pie Crust and Pillsbury Pie Dough, and you can also use the generic brand at your local grocery store.

If you want to use homemade pie crust, make sure it is cold before starting this recipe.

How much pie filling should I add to the dough?

The key is to make sure that you do not overfill your dough. Otherwise, they will leak out. Depending on how large you cut your dough, you will be able to use between 1 to 2 tablespoons of pie filling.

Can I stack them on top of each other to cook in the Air Fryer?

No, one of the ways that an air fryer cooks up is that hot air circulates the air fryer basket, which will cook the food up to perfection. If you stack them or even crowd the basket, the hot air will not be able to perfectly cook up the dough, leave in you with raw or unevenly cooked dough.

So remember to leave plenty of space around the dough, which will cook it to perfection!

Can you Freeze These?

Yes, these are excellent meal prep with your air fryer. Make a double or triple batch, and then freeze one or two batches for later.

Let the cherry bombs cool to room temperature, and then place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet into the freezer until the cherry bombs are frozen solid. Remove the frozen cherry bombs, and place them into a freezer bag or freezer-safe container. They will last for about 1 to 2 months.

When you are ready to eat a batch of Air Fryer Cherry Bombs, place them into the refrigerator overnight.
