Cherry pie is one of America’s favorite desserts, as it has the great taste of cherries against a nice butter crust. Serve it with a hearty helping of ice cream, and you have a truly American dessert.

The air fryer does an amazing job of perfectly cooking this up, with a light and flaky crust and a creamy center—a perfect piece of Air Fryer Homemade Cherry Pie.

What Is Cherry Pie?

This is a straightforward pie made with a sweet pie filling. Today, I used canned pie filling since it makes the recipe so simple. But, you can easily change this out for a fresh cherry pie filling.

If you have never made a from-scratch cherry pie, the hardest thing is to pit the cherries. This is why I always reach for a canned pie filling. But, if you want, you can prepare the same recipe with a homemade cherry pie filling. The recipe will work the same.

Then fill the bottom pie crust with the cherry filling.

You can either cover it with the pie crusts and then cut out holes (this is the easiest way), or you can press the dough with the tool shown in the list of items used in this recipe.

Mix the egg yolk and milk, and brush it on the top of the pie crust.

Place the uncooked prepared pie into the Air Fryer (mine fit when I took the basket out) and set the temperature to 310 degrees for 10 minutes. Then open it, and check it out. Mine needed 5 minutes more.

Some Pro Tips:

  • Drain the cherries; you don’t want any of the extra juice to soak up the crust. (Note: Depending on which pie filling you use, they might be soaked in liquid)
  • Purchase a good quality pie filling. Look for one that is natural, usually contains less sugar.
  • The egg wash really gives your pie a brown coloring, especially while baking it in the air fryer.
  • You will need to make small slits in your pie so that the steam can be released.

Make-Ahead Instructions

This is a great pie to make ahead, especially with the upcoming holidays. If you want o make it ahead, cover it tightly and store it in the refrigerator.

It would last about 2 to 3 days before starting to get too soggy.

How To Freeze Air Fryer Homemade Cherry Pie

Thie pie can also be frozen. Bring the cherry pie to room temperature and then seal tightly. Place in the freezer, and it will last for about a month.

When you are ready to serve the cherry pie, place it in the refrigerator until it thaws. You can even heat it before serving it in the air fryer.
