How To Make Egg Toast In Air Fryer
Making egg toast in an air fryer is a simple, quick, and delicious way to start your day. Here’s a straightforward method to create this delightful breakfast:
Step One: Prepare The Bread
Start by using the back of a spoon and make a small indention. Make an indentation in the center of each slice of bread for best results.
Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. You can butter the bread for added flavor, but you don’t need to. Place your bread into the preheated air fryer basket.
Step Two: Air Fry
Crack the egg into the center of the bread with the space carved out for it. Set the air fryer temperature to 350 degrees F, set the cooking time for 3- 5 minutes.
Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top, then air fry again for a minute or two (you just want the cheese to melt), and then remove.
Recipe Variations
Exploring recipe variations for air fryer egg toast can keep your breakfast exciting and cater to various tastes. Here are several delicious twists on the classic recipe:

- Mushroom and Swiss Egg Toast: Sauté some mushrooms and place them on your bread before cracking the egg into it. Top with Swiss cheese for a melt that pairs perfectly with the earthy mushrooms.
- Spinach and Feta Egg Toast: Add fresh spinach leaves and crumbled feta cheese to your egg before air frying. The combination of leafy greens and tangy cheese makes for a Mediterranean-inspired breakfast.

Pro Tips
Making egg toast in an air fryer can be a delightful and convenient way to enjoy a classic breakfast with a twist. Here are some pro tips to elevate your air fryer egg toast to the next level:
- Preheat for Perfection: Always preheat your air fryer for a few minutes before adding your bread and egg. This ensures a more even cook and a perfectly crispy toast.
- Choose the Right Bread: Thicker slices of bread work best for egg toast as they hold up better under the egg’s weight and any additional toppings. Artisan breads like sourdough or a sturdy whole grain are excellent choices.
- Use a Cookie Cutter for Precision: If you prefer your egg contained within the bread, use a cookie cutter or a sharp knife to create a neat hole in the center of your bread slice. This keeps the egg in place and makes for an attractive presentation.
- Crack Eggs Separately: To avoid accidental shell bits and ensure your egg fits neatly in or on your toast, crack each egg into a small bowl or cup before transferring it to the bread. This step also allows you to control the yolk’s placement better.
- Season Before Cooking: Sprinkle your egg with a pinch of salt, pepper, or other desired seasonings before air frying. Seasoning beforehand helps infuse the egg with more flavor as it cooks.
- Monitor Cooking Times: Cooking times can vary based on the air fryer model and your preferred doneness for the egg. Start checking a few minutes before the suggested cooking time to prevent overcooking.
- Add Cheese at the Right Time: If you’re adding cheese, consider placing it on top of the egg halfway through cooking. This allows the cheese to melt perfectly without burning.
- Experiment with Toppings: Beyond the classic egg toast, add pre-cooked meats, vegetables, or sauces after cooking for additional flavor and texture. Toppings like avocado, salsa, or a drizzle of hot sauce can transform the dish.
- Use Parchment Paper for Easy Cleanup: Placing your bread and egg on a piece of parchment paper in the air fryer basket can make cleanup a breeze and prevent sticking.
- Stay Open to Experimentation: The air fryer is a versatile tool, so don’t hesitate to experiment with different types of bread, eggs (such as scrambled or whisked), and various toppings to find your favorite combinations.
Following these pro tips can help you master the art of making egg toast in an air fryer, ensuring a delicious, perfectly cooked breakfast that’s easy to customize and enjoy any day of the week.
Faq’s Air Fryer Egg Toast
Can I make more than one cheesy air fryer egg toast? Yes, you can make multiple servings at once, depending on your air fryer basket size. Ensure enough space between each piece of bread for air circulation to achieve even cooking.
What if I don’t have a cookie cutter for the bread? If you don’t have a cookie cutter, you can use the rim of a glass or a sharp knife to carefully cut out a hole in the center of the bread. Alternatively, you can crack the egg directly on the bread without making a hole, though it may spread more. Use the back of a spoon for an easy recipe.
Can I use frozen bread to make air fryer egg toast? Yes, you can use frozen bread. Just add a minute or two to the cooking time. The air fryer does an excellent job of defrosting and toasting simultaneously.
How do I prevent the egg from running off the bread? Creating a small well or barrier with the bread helps, especially if using a thicker slice. You can also lightly press down on the center of the bread to create a more pronounced indent for the egg. If you’re concerned about the egg spreading, consider using a frame or ring on the bread to contain the egg.
Can I add toppings like vegetables or meats to my egg toast? Absolutely! Add pre-cooked toppings directly onto the egg before air frying. For raw vegetables or meats, it’s best to cook them beforehand to ensure they’re fully cooked and safe to eat.
How do I know when the egg toast is done cooking? The egg toast is made when the egg whites are fully set, and the yolk reaches your desired doneness. This typically takes about 6-8 minutes at 360°F (182°C), but it’s a good idea to start checking a few minutes earlier since air fryer temperatures can vary.
Can I make air fryer egg toast with scrambled eggs? Yes, you can make a scrambled egg version by whisking the egg with milk, salt, and pepper, then pour it into the bread hole or on top of the bread if you’re not using a hole. The cooking time might be slightly shorter, so keep an eye on it. This recipe is usually perfect for sunny-side eggs.
Is air fryer egg toast healthy? Air fryer egg toast can be a healthy breakfast option, especially if you use whole-grain bread and add nutritious toppings like vegetables. The air fryer cooks with less oil, making it a healthier choice than traditional frying methods.

Curious how you keep the bread from flying around inside?
Kathleen Griffith
I just tried the cheesy egg in my air fryer and I added bacon. The egg was soft and runny like I like them, but the cheese & bacon flew off & made a mess.
For the second egg I did the egg for 6 min. and finished the bacon & cheese in the microwave.
This one was more like a hard boiled egg, but I like to know what I did wrong with the first egg!
I believe I will make this again but with a liner.
Thank you for your input!
