What are Caramelized Bananas?

Caramelization is a cooking process that occurs when you heat brown sugar or regular sugar and butter.

Caramelized bananas are simply bananas that have been cooked (or air fried) with a sugar mixture.

As you heat the sugar, the molecules inside the sugar start to break down. As the sugars start to break down, they start to crisp up the bananas, and the sauce turns into a homemade caramel sauce.

Serving Suggestions for Air Fryer Bananas

You can serve these with almost anything! From breakfast, lunch, and dinner, to a great snack or appetizer, these work with anything.

They are also great for a get-together, birthday party, or any other celebration.

Some of my favorite ways to serve these:

  • Over pancakes or waffles
  • With vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream
  • Cut up in oatmeal or porridge

What Kind of Banana Should I Use?

Opt for a firm and yellow banana, without too many freckles, for my air fryer caramelized banana recipe.

If you use one that’s too ripe, you’ll end up with mushy results.

How Long Will Air Fryer Caramelized Bananas Keep?

I recommend eating these right away. They’ll start to break down and become mushy in the fridge.

I would eat them within an hour of making them.

Can I Freeze This Air Fryer Caramelized Banana Recipe?

These will not freeze and thaw well. My advice? Make them when you want them, and try to finish in one sitting. That’s what’s so great about using your air fryer…you’ll have air fryer bananas ready to enjoy in less than 15 minutes!

Are Caramelized Bananas Good For You?

Bananas are known for being high in carbohydrates, but I find them to be quite wholesome!

That said, this caramelized bananas recipe does contain butter and sugar, so eat them in moderation.
