How To Air Fry Grilled Chicken Skewers
Do you have an air fryer? If not, you might want to consider getting one, especially if you love chicken kabobs!
Step 1: Marinate the chicken
In a large mixing bowl or Ziploc bag, combine lemon juice, honey, balsamic vinegar, oregano, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Set aside.
Slice boneless chicken breasts or thighs into 1-inch cubes. Transfer the chicken to the bowl of marinade and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, up to overnight.
Step 2: Assemble the skewers
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
Meanwhile, add approximately four chicken cubes to each skewer. If you are going to add pieces of veggies, add those as well. Leave some space on each end of the skewer so they are easy to grab.
Step 3: Air fry chicken kabobs
Once preheated, spray or brush the air fryer basket with olive oil and place skewers in a single layer on the tray.
Cook at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes, then flip and cook for 5 more minutes.
Pro Tips For The Best Air Fryer Chicken Kebabs
- Marinating: Let the marinated chicken sit in the refrigerator overnight if possible — it really enhances the flavor. That said, air fryer chicken skewers are still delicious with the 30-minute marinade.
- Soak skewers: Place wooden skewers in a large bowl of water and soak for 20-30 minutes before adding the chicken pieces. This ensures they won’t smoke or burn in the air fryer.
- Avoid overcooking: Remove air fryer chicken kabobs immediately once cooked, or they will become tough and dry.
- Keep moist: Before you air fry grilled chicken, brush oil over the top for extra moisture. This also helps to brown the outside.
- Make adjustments: All air fryers are different — I used the Cosori Air fryer for this recipe. You may have to adjust the time and temperature for your model.
- Extra seasonings: You can use any of your favorite seasonings, such as red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, sesame seeds, chili powder, onion powder, and brown sugar.
What To Serve With Shish Kabobs
This easy dish is quick and easy to make, and it’s perfect for a summer BBQ or party. Serve air fryer chicken skewers with Greek favorites like tzatziki sauce, rice, and a Greek salad.

Storage and Reheating
Let air fryer chicken kabobs cool to room temperature, then place them into an airtight container. You can also remove the meat from the skewers if you prefer.
Refrigerate for 3 to 4 days or freeze for up to 1 month. The best way to reheat chicken kabobs is in the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Why Cook Chicken Kabobs In The Air Fryer?
The most popular way to cook chicken kebabs is on the grill, but that requires careful and constant watching. Plus, that’s the last place anyone wants to be on a hot day — or in the rain!
And if you’ve ever tried cooking them in the oven, you know that they don’t always come out evenly cooked.
That’s where this air fryer chicken kabobs recipe comes in! Just place chicken kabobs in the air fryer, set the time and temperature, and let the air fryer work its magic. They come out perfectly cooked and juicy every time with very little effort.
How Do You Know When Chicken Kebabs Are Done?
The best method to test if meat is done is with a meat thermometer. Insert it into the center of a piece of chicken — it should reach at least 165 degrees F to be safe to eat.
If you don’t have a thermometer, remove a piece of chicken and cut into it. It should be white and opaque in the center, and the juices should run clear. If there is any pink or it appears translucent (a bit shimmery), then air fry chicken kabobs a bit longer.
Can You Make Kabobs Ahead of Time?
Yes! For best results, marinate the chicken overnight and assemble just before you air fry the grilled chicken. This way, the meat stays moist and delicious.
If you’re prepping for a party, you can also prepare and assemble the skewers the night before. Cover them tightly with saran wrap and refrigerate. Then, when you are ready to air fry chicken kabobs, simply place them into the air fryer basket and cook them!
