These five air fryer pork chop recipes cover every way I cook chops on a weeknight: a no-breading herb rub, a ranch-seasoned chop, a crispy Shake and Bake coating, a sweet apricot glaze, and a method for cooking pork chops straight from the freezer. Every one of them is done in about 20 to 30 minutes, and every one uses the same two rules that keep pork chops juicy: 400°F and a thermometer.

The air fryer is the best tool I own for pork chops. The hot circulating air browns the outside fast, before the inside has a chance to dry out, which is the whole problem with pork chops in a skillet or the oven. There is no splatter, no preheating a heavy pan, and the basket wipes clean.

Below you will find the cook time chart I use for every recipe, then the five recipes themselves with what makes each one worth making. Pick by what is in your pantry: a seasoning packet, a jar of preserves, or just dried herbs and olive oil.

How Long to Cook Pork Chops in the Air Fryer

For plain or dry-rubbed chops, 400°F is the temperature. Time depends on thickness far more than on bone-in versus boneless. Flip halfway in every case, and cook to 145°F (63°C) in the thickest part, measured away from the bone. That is the USDA safe temperature for pork; rest the chops 3 minutes and the center stays slightly pink and juicy.

Two exceptions are built into the chart. Sugary glazes burn at 400°F, so the apricot chops run at 375°F. Frozen chops need a lower temperature and a warm-up step so the outside does not overcook while the center thaws.

1. Air Fryer Italian Pork Chops

Best for: a no-breading, low-carb chop with real herb flavor, on the table in 20 minutes.

This is the recipe I reach for most. Thin-cut bone-in chops get a drizzle of olive oil and a rub of dried oregano, basil, parsley, rosemary and garlic powder, then go into the air fryer at 400°F for about 10 minutes with one flip. The herbs brown into a savory crust without a crumb of breading, and the bone keeps the meat juicy. Finish with grated Parmesan and chopped parsley and it tastes like something from an Italian kitchen, not a seasoning packet.

Why it works: half-inch chops at high heat cook through before they dry out, and the herb rub does the job a breadcrumb coating normally does. If you only have a jar of Italian seasoning, 2 tablespoons replaces the four separate herbs.

Time: 10 minutes prep, about 10 minutes cook, 20 minutes total. Serves 4.

2. Air Fryer Ranch Pork Chops

Best for: the fastest prep on this list. One seasoning packet, five minutes of work.

Ranch seasoning on pork chops sounds like a shortcut, and it is, but it is a good one. The dry mix is already balanced with buttermilk powder, garlic, onion and herbs, so you toss bone-in or boneless chops (3/4 to 1 inch thick) with olive oil, 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning, a little extra garlic powder and black pepper, and air fry at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway. The coating turns golden and savory, and kids who will not touch an herb rub eat these without comment.

Why it works: the one rule is to use the dry seasoning packet, never bottled ranch dressing. The liquid version steams in the air fryer instead of crisping.

Time: 5 minutes prep, 12 minutes cook, 5 minutes rest, 22 minutes total. Serves 4.

3. Air Fryer Shake and Bake Pork Chops

Best for: a crispy breaded chop without a drop of frying oil.

If you grew up on Shake and Bake, this is that dinner made better. Bone-in chops about an inch thick get coated in the seasoned crumbs (a packet, or about a cup of the homemade version with breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder), then air fry at 400°F for 12 to 14 minutes, flipping halfway. The air fryer does what the oven never quite managed: the coating crisps all the way around instead of going soft on the bottom.

Why it works: mist the breaded chops with oil or cooking spray before they go in. That light coat of fat is what turns the crumbs golden instead of chalky. Thinner or boneless chops are done closer to 9 minutes, so check early.

Time: 5 minutes prep, 14 minutes cook, 3 minutes rest, 22 minutes total. Serves 4.

4. Air Fryer Apricot Pork Chops

Best for: a sweet-and-tangy glazed chop that feels like more effort than it is.

This is the one to make when you want something other than savory. Boneless chops about an inch thick marinate for 30 minutes in apricot preserves, sweet and sour sauce, rice vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper, then air fry at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway. The preserves caramelize into a sticky, glossy coating with a little tang from the vinegar. It is good over rice, and the leftovers slice well for salads.

Why it works: the temperature drops to 375°F because sugar burns at 400°F, and you shake off the excess marinade before the chops go in. A thin coat caramelizes; a thick one scorches and smokes.

Time: 10 minutes prep, 30 minutes marinating, 15 minutes cook, 55 minutes total. Serves 4.

5. Air Fryer Frozen Pork Chops

Best for: the night you forgot to thaw anything.

Yes, you can cook pork chops in the air fryer straight from the freezer, bone-in or boneless, and they come out juicy rather than rubbery. The method is a two-stage cook: the frozen chops warm in the basket at 380°F for 5 to 8 minutes, then get rubbed with a sweet and smoky blend of brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic and onion powder, thyme, oregano and ground mustard, and go back in at 380°F for 12 to 16 minutes, flipping halfway. Cook to 145°F and rest 3 to 5 minutes.

Why it works: the lower temperature and the warm-up step let the center thaw before the outside overcooks, and the rub goes on after the surface has softened so it actually sticks. The smartest trick in the post: rub the chops before you freeze them and skip the seasoning step entirely on cooking day.

Time: 10 minutes prep, 20 minutes cook, 30 minutes total. Serves 4.

Tips for Juicy Air Fryer Pork Chops, Whatever the Recipe

  • Buy chops of the same thickness. A mixed pack means one is overdone before the next is safe. Three-quarters to one inch is the sweet spot for most of these recipes.
  • Preheat for 3 to 5 minutes. A hot basket browns the surface right away. If you are unsure whether your model needs it, read Do You Preheat the Air Fryer?
  • Pat dry, then oil, then season. Moisture steams instead of browns, and oil on a wet chop slides off with the seasoning.
  • Single layer, no overlap. Crowding is the number one cause of pale, unevenly cooked chops. Cook in two batches if you have to.
  • Flip halfway. Air fryers heat from the top; the flip is what browns the second side.
  • Use a thermometer and pull at 145°F. Carryover heat adds a few degrees during the rest. Chops taken to 160°F in the basket are the ones that come out dry.
  • Rest 3 minutes. The juices settle back into the meat instead of running onto the plate.
  • Reheat in the air fryer, not the microwave. 350°F for 5 to 8 minutes brings leftovers back without drying them. The full method is in How to Reheat Pork Chops in the Air Fryer.

What to Serve with Air Fryer Pork Chops

Most of these run at the same 400°F, so you can cook a side while the chops rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature should I cook pork chops in the air fryer?

400°F (200°C) for plain, rubbed or breaded chops. Drop to 375°F for anything with a sugary glaze, and to 380°F for chops cooked from frozen. In every case, cook to an internal temperature of 145°F.

How long do pork chops take in the air fryer?

8 to 10 minutes for thin-cut (1/2 inch) chops and 12 to 15 minutes for thick-cut (1 inch) chops at 400°F, flipping halfway. Boneless chops cook 1 to 2 minutes faster than bone-in of the same thickness. The chart above has the full breakdown.

Bone-in or boneless pork chops for the air fryer?

Either works. Bone-in chops are more forgiving because the bone slows cooking near the center, so they are harder to dry out. Boneless chops are quicker and easier to eat; just pull them the moment they reach 145°F.

Do I have to flip pork chops in the air fryer?

Yes. Flipping halfway browns both sides and evens out the cooking, since most air fryers heat from the top.

Can I cook frozen pork chops in the air fryer?

Yes, with a two-stage method: warm them at 380°F for 5 to 8 minutes, season, then cook 12 to 16 minutes more. Recipe 5 above walks through it.

Why are my air fryer pork chops dry?

Almost always one of three things: the chops were thinner than the recipe assumed, they were cooked past 145°F, or they were not rested. A thermometer solves the first two.
