Pro Tips

Creating delicious Air Fryer Pizza Egg Rolls is both fun and straightforward. Here are some pro tips to ensure they turn out perfectly every time:

  • Don’t Overfill: Be careful not to overfill the egg rolls. Too much filling can cause them to burst open during cooking. A tablespoon or two of filling per roll is usually sufficient.
  • Seal Them Well: Ensure the edges of the egg rolls are sealed properly to prevent the filling from leaking out. You can use a bit of water or a beaten egg to moisten the edges of the wrappers for a secure seal.
  • Even Cooking: For even cooking and browning, don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary, and make sure the egg rolls aren’t touching each other.
  • Crispy Texture: Lightly spray or brush the egg rolls with oil before cooking. This helps to achieve a crispy, golden-brown exterior.
  • Flipping is Key: Halfway through the cooking time, flip the egg rolls to ensure they are evenly cooked and browned on all sides.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheating the air fryer helps to cook the egg rolls evenly and achieve a good texture.
  • Customize Fillings: Feel free to get creative with the fillings. Just like pizzas, you can cater to various tastes by adjusting the ingredients.
  • Watch the Temperature: Cook at the right temperature – not too high, as it could burn the wrappers before the inside is hot. Around 390°F (200°C) works well for most air fryers.
  • Let Them Cool: Allow the egg rolls to cool for a couple of minutes after cooking. They will be very hot inside and this also helps the filling to set a bit.
  • Serve Immediately: These are best served fresh and hot from the air fryer. However, if you need to keep them warm, place them in an oven set at a low temperature.
  • Dipping Sauces: Serve with a variety of dipping sauces like marinara, ranch, or garlic butter for added flavor.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to enjoy delicious, crispy Air Fryer Pizza Egg Rolls that are perfect as a snack, appetizer, or part of a casual meal.

Faq’s

What type of fillings can I use in pizza egg rolls? You can use a variety of fillings, including traditional pizza toppings like pepperoni, sausage, different cheeses, vegetables, and even pineapple. Ensure the fillings are not too wet to prevent the egg rolls from becoming soggy.

How do I prevent the egg rolls from bursting open in the air fryer? To prevent bursting, avoid overfilling the egg rolls and ensure they are sealed properly. Also, cooking at the right temperature and not overcrowding the air fryer basket helps.

Can I make these egg rolls ahead of time? You can prepare the egg rolls ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator before cooking. However, they are best cooked fresh to maintain the crispiness.

Can I freeze pizza egg rolls? Yes, you can freeze them either before or after cooking. If freezing before cooking, lay them out on a baking sheet to freeze individually, then transfer to a freezer bag. Cook them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

What’s the best way to reheat leftover pizza egg rolls? Reheat them in the air fryer or oven to maintain the crispiness. Microwaving is not recommended as it can make them soggy.

How long should I cook pizza egg rolls in the air fryer? The cooking time may vary depending on the air fryer model, but it generally takes about 8-10 minutes at 390°F (200°C), flipping halfway through.

Can I use store-bought pizza dough instead of egg roll wrappers? Pizza dough and egg roll wrappers have different textures and cooking times, so they are not directly interchangeable in this recipe.

What dipping sauces pair well with pizza egg rolls? Marinara sauce, ranch dressing, garlic butter, or even alfredo sauce can be great for dipping.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer? Yes, preheating helps to cook the egg rolls evenly and achieve a crispy texture.

Are air fryer pizza egg rolls healthier than traditional pizza? They can be healthier as they use less oil than deep-fried versions, and you have control over the fillings, which can be tailored to be more nutritious.

Description

Air Fryer Pizza Egg Rolls are excellent, with the same great taste as pizza, but served in an egg roll.

Ingredients

  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • 6 ounces Pepperoni, diced
  • 8 ounces Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  • 2-3 tablespoons Water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tablespoon parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Pizza/Marinara sauce, for dipping, optional but highly recommended

Instructions

  • Separate the egg roll wrappers and layer 4-5 pieces of pepperoni and some mozzarella cheese in the middle of each wrapper, leaving a little bit of space around all the sides (be careful not to overfill so you can still roll the wrapper without the pepperoni and cheese falling out).
  • Fill a small bowl with water and dip your finger in water and then run around the edges of the wrapper.
  • Fold the bottom corner of the egg roll up, then fold in the two sides.
  • Next, roll as tightly as you can and seal the egg roll shut with the last corner.
  • Repeat with all of the egg rolls.
  • Coat the inside of the air fryer with cooking spray and place a single layer of pizza rolls inside.
  • Spray the tops of the pizza rolls with cooking spray and then air fry for 10-12 minutes at 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • While they are cooking, combine the butter, parsley, salt, and ground black pepper in a large bowl.
  • Once the pizza rolls are cooked, coat the rolls with the garlic butter mixture (I just use a spatula to smear the butter across the tops and let it melt).
  • Serve with a side of pizza sauce to dip in and enjoy!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional
