  • Cherries: I used a canned filling. You can switch this out for any canned fruit.
  • Flour: All-purpose flour, but you can change it out for whole wheat or gluten-free, but note that the texture might change.
  • Sugar: I used granulated sugar.
  • Baking Powder: This makes the biscuits rise and gives the biscuits a great light texture.
  • Milk: Any milk or cream can be used
  • Butter:  For this recipe, unsalted works best since the biscuits will become too salty if you use salted butter.

  • Use fresh or thawed cherries – frozen works too, but drain excess liquid to avoid soggy topping.

  • Don’t overmix the batter – a gentle fold keeps the topping tender and light.

  • Grease your dish – prevents sticking and helps the crust crisp nicely.

  • Preheat the air fryer – ensures even cooking and golden color.

  • Check halfway through – cover loosely with foil if the top is browning too quickly.

  • Serve warm – cherry cobbler is best fresh from the air fryer with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream

Storing Instructions

  • Refrigerator: Allow the cobbler to cool completely, then cover tightly with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. It will keep in the fridge for 3–4 days.
  • Freezer: Portion the cobbler into individual servings or leave it whole, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then place in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating: From the fridge: Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 5–7 minutes or until warmed through. From frozen: Thaw overnight in the fridge, then reheat as above. Warm gently in the microwave, but the crust may lose some crispness.

Easy Air Fryer Cherry Cobbler

Easy Air Fryer Cherry Cobbler Recipe Faqs

Why does this recipe work well in the air fryer? The air fryer provides concentrated, dry heat that crisps the cobbler topping (the biscuits/crust) beautifully while heating the filling evenly, often resulting in a superior crust texture compared to a conventional oven.

What kind of dish should I use in the air fryer? Use a small, oven-safe baking dish, cast iron skillet, or foil pan that fits inside your air fryer basket with at least an inch of space around it for air circulation. Small 6 inch or 7 inch round pans are usually ideal.

Can I use frozen cherries? Yes, you can use frozen cherries. Do not thaw them first; simply mix them with the sugar and cornstarch as directed. You may need to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

What can I use if I don’t have cornstarch to thicken the filling? You can substitute an equal amount of all-purpose flour or half the amount of arrowroot powder. Cornstarch or arrowroot is generally preferred as it gives a clearer, shinier sauce.

How do I prevent the topping from burning before the filling is hot? If the topping browns too quickly, loosely tent the dish with a piece of aluminum foil for the last 5–10 minutes of the cook time.

How do I know when the cobbler is fully cooked? The cobbler is done when the topping is golden brown, and the cherry filling is visibly bubbling around the edges, indicating the cornstarch has thickened the sauce properly.
