Scrambled Eggs in Air Fryer

Longtime readers know just how much I love my air fryer. It crisps food up so well without a lot of extra oil! I recently brought mine along with me to one of my son’s hockey tournaments to make mealtimes easier (and more affordable). Trust me… feeding 30 teenage boys can feel overwhelming.

They needed as much energy as they could get every morning, and us moms needed an easy way to whip up 30 meals quickly. I made the boys scrambled eggs, and they couldn’t get enough of them.

So, I decided it was time to teach all of you how to cook scrambled eggs in air fryer! It’s incredibly easy, but if you’ve never made them before, there are a few things to keep in mind. Once you get the hang of it, breakfast will be so much easier — whether you’re cooking for 30 teenagers or just your family!

  • Eggs: Your key ingredient. I always try to grab eggs from local farmers in my area, but if you don’t have access to that, free-range from the supermarket works.
  • Butter or Oil: You don’t need a ton of butter or oil to make my scrambled eggs air fryer recipe but you do need a bit to prevent sticking.
  • Salt & Black Pepper: A pinch or two of salt and ground black pepper highlight the natural flavors in the eggs. You can always add more seasonings if you’d like — I have some recommendations down below.

How to Cook Scrambled Eggs in Air Fryer

Step 1: Preheat the air fryer

Place your butter or oil of choice in an air fryer-safe pan, then place it inside the air fryer. Preheat to 220 degrees F so the oil or butter heats at the same time.

Step 2: Prep the eggs

Add the eggs, salt, and pepper to a bowl and beat with a whisk or fork.

Step 3: Air fry

Pour the egg mixture into the pan and air fry for 2 minutes. Scrape the bottom of the pan then air fry for another 2 minutes.

Repeat until the eggs are done the way YOU want. I tend to like mine a bit soft, so 4 minutes is a good amount of time. You may need to cook for 6-8 minutes total to get them firm and cooked all the way through.

Ways to Serve and Variations

  • Add Some Veggies: Chopped onion or bell pepper would be an easy addition. Or use up some leftover squash or my AIR FRYER CARAMELIZED ONIONS.
  • Garnish with Fresh Herbs: Chives and cilantro would add a bit of freshness to your plate.
  • Make it Spicy: Kick things up a notch with a dash or two of your favorite hot sauce. Mix it in before cooking the eggs or once they’re done. Or, add some AIR FRYER SALSA for extra heat and veggies!
  • Cheesy Variation: Sprinkle shredded cheese over the eggs during the last minute of cooking. Or mix it in just before serving.
  • Use More Seasonings: Garlic and onion powder go with just about everything. You could even add some smoked paprika.

Scrambled Eggs Air Fryer Pro Tips

  • Whisk thoroughly before adding the eggs to the pan. This helps prevent any lumps! Plus, the more you beat them, the fluffier they will be.
  • Every air fryer is different, so your air fryer scrambled eggs may take more (or less!) time. Keep an eye on them as they cook and don’t be afraid to adjust if needed.
  • Don’t Forget to Scrape: After the first few minutes of air frying, it’s important to open up the air fryer to scrape the already-cooked scrambled eggs from the air fryer pan. This helps the eggs actually scramble, and keeps them from sticking.
  • Grease the Pan: It’s important to grease the pan first when making eggs in the air fryer. Cooking spray or a bit of oil (canola or avocado) will do the job, and butter works too.
  • Creamy Option: If you’d like, you can add a splash of milk or cream to the eggs with the salt and pepper.

Scrambled Eggs in Air Fryer FAQs

What temperature should I air fry scrambled eggs?

The lower the temperature, the better! I cook mine at 220 degrees F to keep them from coming out rubbery. I wouldn’t recommend a higher temp… otherwise your eggs will look and taste like plastic.

How long does it take to make scrambled eggs in air fryer?

Cooking times will vary depending on your air fryer model and how you like your eggs! It typically takes between 5-7 minutes at 220 degrees F.

How do I keep my scrambled eggs from drying out?

Don’t overcook them! Air fry the eggs until they are set but still slightly moist for the best results. You could also add a splash of milk or cream before air frying for extra moisture.

Can I add other ingredients to scrambled eggs?

Absolutely! You can easily customize your scrambled eggs with cheese, chopped vegetables, cooked meats, or herbs and spices. Simply add these to the beaten eggs before cooking. Refer to my variation ideas above if you need some inspiration.

How many eggs can I cook in the air fryer?

It depends on your model. I will say that it’s best not to overcrowd the basket to ensure even cooking. You may need to cook in batches if making a large quantity.

Can I reheat leftover scrambled eggs in air fryer?

Yes. Simply place them in the air fryer basket and heat at 325 degrees F for a few minutes until warmed through, stirring occasionally.
