French fries are my go-to whenever I’m hosting a party or just need a simple snack that the whole family can enjoy.

I’ve tried everything from Air Fryer Cajun fries and frozen sweet potato fries to zesty, curly fries and even some spicy paprika and garlic French fries

And after trying out almost every seasoning and air frying trick under the sun, I’m proud to present my absolute favorite French fry recipe of all time- this!

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • Crisp and delish: Air frying cooks up the fries perfectly, and gives them that nice, crispy texture on the outside. It’s actually the perfect way to make French fries, if you ask me.
  • Healthier: You’ll need to use very little oil as opposed to deep frying, which makes the fries much healthier.
  • Quick and easy: These fancy-shmancy fries barely take any time to cook. They’re a savior when you’re looking for a quick side dish or snack.
  • Customizable: You can play around with the mix-ins and seasonings to give your own touch to the recipe and tailor it to your liking.

Ingredients For the Air Fryer Truffle Fries Recipe

  • Potatoes: I love using Yukon Gold or Idaho Russet potatoes for my homemade fries. They crisp up perfectly, and have the perfect, soft interior. Choose the best quality potatoes for this recipe- trust me, it makes a world of difference!
  • Truffle oil: Use either white or black truffle oil- whatever you prefer. You’ll need just a little, so again, choose the best quality.
  • Seasonings: Keep it simple- use just a little bit of freshly ground black pepper and some kosher salt or sea salt.
  • Parmesan cheese: Freshly grated Parmesan cheese is another must! It lends a beautiful cheesy and umami deliciousness to the truffle fries.
  • Cooking spray: Use regular cooking spray or olive oil spray to coat the fries. This will help them crisp up nicely in the Air Fryer.
  • Parsley (optional): Chopped fresh parsley can be a wonderful garnish. It’s okay to skip this one if you don’t have it though.

Variations & Substitutions

  • If you don’t have fresh potatoes or just want to try this recipe with frozen French fries, you could do that too! Simply make frozen fries in the Air Fryer and follow the rest of the recipe as-is.
  • For a bit of extra truffle flavor, season the fries with truffle salt.
  • You can also play around with the seasonings and sprinkle some garlic powder or Italian seasoning to lend these truffle fries a different flavor.

How to Make Air Fryer Truffle Fries

Preheat: To make the crispy truffle fries, start by preheating the Air Fryer.

Prep potatoes: Wash and cut your potatoes into batons or wedges. Transfer them to a large bowl filled with cold water and soak them for 30-40 minutes.

Season time: Remove the potatoes and pat them dry. Transfer them to another bowl and drizzle some truffle oil over them. Sprinkle some salt and pepper over them and toss them nicely, so that all the fries are well coated.

Tips & Tricks to Make the Truffle Fries in the Air Fryer

  • As with all Air Fryer recipes, make sure you don’t overcrowd the basket. Work in batches, and leave room for the hot air to flow through the basket and crisp up the potatoes.
  • Experiment with different cuts of potatoes. You can keep it simple and chop them up into sticks, or cut them into chunks, just like I did with my Air Fryer truffle potatoes
  • Remember to shake the Air Fryer basket a few times during the cooking process. This will help the fries get nice and crispy on all the sides.
  • Serve the fries immediately- they taste best when they’re served piping hot, right out of the Air Fryer.
  • Elevate the dish by serving the truffle fries with some garlic mayo, truffle aioli or just some ketchup.

Storage Instructions

  • Refrigeration: Your leftover truffle fries can be refrigerated and stored for up to 3 days. Use an airtight container to keep them fresh, and reheat them properly to get them nice and crispy again.
  • Reheating: You can reheat the truffle fries in your oven or Air Fryer. I wouldn’t recommend using the microwave, as that can make the fries soft and soggy. If you’re using the Air Fryer, remember to preheat it and use it only for a couple of minutes, as it can quickly burn the fries. To reheat the fries in the oven, arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheet, and bake them for 5-10 minutes until they’re crisped up.

Serving Ideas & Suggestions

Serve these air fried truffle fries as an easy yet elegant side dish with your choice of protein or a big, fat and juicy burger.

I also love making it as a quick snack when I don’t want to put in a lot of effort, but still want to make an impression.

If I’m making these for game day or at a house party when I’m entertaining, I love pairing these fries along with some of my other popular fries and air fried snacks, and some delicious dips to finish it all up.

My Air Fryer pizza dip, alfredo dip and Instant Pot buffalo chicken dip are total crowd pleasers. I usually pair them with some Italian pull-apart rolls, air fried chicken tenders and some French onion cheese bread

FAQs

Is it okay to skip soaking the potatoes? Soaking the potatoes is absolutely crucial. It helps remove the excess starch and makes them crispy when you air fry them. I wouldn’t recommend skipping this step.

What else can I use to season the truffle fries? You can drizzle some Worcestershire sauce or Dijon mustard over the fries, right before you serve to lend a different layer of flavor to them.

Description

Air Fryer Truffle Fries — Indulge in the gourmet goodness of truffle fries without needing a fancy restaurant. With the help of your trusty air fryer, you can create crispy, aromatic, and irresistibly delicious truffle fries right in the comfort of your kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 large russet potatoes, cut into fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon truffle oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon truffle salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Potatoes: While the air fryer is preheating, wash, peel (optional), and cut the potatoes into thin strips or wedges. Place the diced potatoes into a large bowl filled with cold water. Let the potatoes soak for 30-40 minutes. Then, remove the potatoes from the water and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  • Season with Truffle Oil: Place the cut potatoes in a mixing bowl and drizzle them with truffle oil. Toss the potatoes to ensure they are evenly coated with the oil. Truffle oil is potent, so use it sparingly, adding more as needed for your desired truffle flavor.
  • Season with Salt and Pepper: Season the truffle-coated potatoes with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. You can also use truffle salt to intensify the truffle flavor.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees F (193°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  • Air Fry: Carefully place the seasoned potato slices or wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. If necessary, cook in batches.
  • Cook: Cook the truffle fries in the preheated air fryer at 380 degrees F (193°C) set cook time for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping the fries halfway through to ensure even cooking. Cook until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan: About 1-2 minutes before the cooking time is done, open the air fryer and sprinkle the fries with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Close the air fryer and let it finish cooking.
  • Garnish and Serve: Remove the truffle cooked fries from the air fryer basket once they are done. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley (optional) for color and freshness. Add a little truffle oil, right before serving.
  • Serve Hot: Serve the truffle fries immediately while they’re hot and crispy. They’re perfect as a side dish, appetizer, or snack.
