Air Fryer Salmon Patties

Air Fryer Salmon Patties

Today, I made one of my family’s favorite air fryer recipes. Homemade Air Fryer Salmon Patties.  They are a simple dish to make, and the best thing is most of the items come from the pantry. So, it’s a great meal to have on hand.

This is a great way to get a healthy seafood dinner for your family within minutes. The air fryer does a great job of creating a light and flaky salmon patty or cake.

These come up crispy, light and flavorful in the air fryer, they are amazing, and you can either use canned salmon or fresh salmon. But this is one of my greatest pantry meals.

So, the next time you are looking for something amazing to make, reach for the canned salmon, and you will find yourself with an amazing dinner!

Best of yet, with the air fryer, you get crispy Salmon patty without all of the added fat.

What You Will Love Air Fryer Salmon Patties

  • Easy
  • Ingredients on Hand, stock up on the canned salmon, so this will always be on hand to make.
  • Make them ahead of time, there is nothing better than coming home, and your meals are already prepped for you.
  • Golden Crispy & Delicious!

What Is A Salmon Patty?

Like most salmon patties, they are made from a combination of salmon, breadcrumbs (or saltines), chopped onions, and eggs.

All of these ingredients combine and make either a salmon patty or salmon cake. Depending on where you come from, they are usually called cakes or patties.

Ingredients Used in Today’s Recipe–

  • Salmon (You can use either canned or fresh)
  • Egg
  • Onions
  • Bread Crumbs
  • Dill

There are many different options that you can use. I used canned salmon because it’s what I had on hand, and I was trying to come up with air fryer pantry meals. For my recipe, I removed the skin and bones, which caused some readers to get upset. No reason to ever get upset. If you want to keep them in, you keep them in.

How To Make Air Fryer Salmon Patties

Some Common Questions About Air Fryer Salmon Patties–

How Can I Make Air Fryer Salmon Patties Low-Carb or KETO Friendly?

Easy all you need to do is find a KETO or low carb substitute for the bread crumbs. I personally have just eliminated the bread crumbs. There is also a great selection of KETO and a low-carb selection of bread crumbs available, which also will work.

How Can I Make These With Fresh Salmon?

Easy, all you need to do is substitute the canned for the fresh. You will have to break down the salmon with a fork, so it’s easily formed into patties. I would suggest that you use a food processor to mash them. And remove (or not) the bones and skin.

How Do I Keep My Salmon Patties From Falling Apart?

In this recipe, the bread crumbs and eggs hold the patty together. If you find that the mixture is not sticking, add more bread crumbs.

What Is A Good Sauce For Salmon Patties?

I personally love a fresh squeeze of lemon over my salmon patties. There are several options available. Some of them are creamy dill sauce or cocktail sauce. My husband’s favorite is plain old Dijon mustard.

Can You Make And Freeze These Ahead Of Time?

Yes, they make a great freezer meal. To make, simply prepare them as directed and then place them on a baking sheet. Pop the baking sheet into the freezer and then wait until they are frozen. Then wrap them up individually in saran wrap. Then place the wrapped patties into a Ziploc Bag. They should stay good for about 2 to 3 months. To use, thaw them in the refrigerator and follow the instructions in the recipe card below.

How Long To Cook Frozen Salmon Patties in the Air Fryer?

To use, thaw them in the refrigerator and follow the instructions in the recipe card below.

Can I Make Tuna Patties?

Yes, all you need to do is substitute the canned salmon for the tuna, and the recipe will stay the same.

How Do You Make Them in The Oven?

Easy to make them preheat your oven to 375 degrees F, and bake for about 10-12 minutes.

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs

  3. Mix well.
  4. Shape into patties. Place them in the air fryer.

I used green onion, parsley, black pepper, hot sauce, Old Bay, a bit of garlic powder, no breadcrumbs. I didn’t add dill since this was being served with a wasabi tzatziki sauce. Instead of making patties, I cooked it in a small glass pie pan, topped with cheese in my countertop convection oven. It held together fine and the cheese made a nice crust on top!. Served as wedges.

Made them and the flavor was good! The suggested temp and cook time was too much! The first batch came out dry until I made some adjustments. The second and third batches were much better.

The bones ARE COMPLETELY EDIBLE. We eat them out of the canned salmon all the time. Great source of calcium. My mom taught me to eat them when I was young. My kids love eating the bones as a treat before I make the patties. Then if I miss a small bone, it doesn’t matter.

I grew up on salmon patties, but my mother called them salmon croquettes, and she used crushed saltine crackers instead of bread crumbs. Can’t wait to try them in my air fryer.

I love how everyone complains about her taking the bones out. Grow up people. Its obvious she doesn’t like them but never said you HAVE to take them out. I don’t est them either. To each their own.
