Pro Tips For Making Tuna Patties In Air Fryer

  • Use fresh tuna: Use fresh tuna steaks for the best flavor and texture. Avoid canned tuna, as it is too soft and may fall apart.
  • Pulse the tuna in a food processor: To create the right texture for the burgers, pulse the tuna in a food processor until it is finely chopped but not pureed.
  • Use bread crumbs: Mix in bread crumbs or panko bread crumbs to help bind the burgers and prevent them from falling apart.
  • Chill the mixture: Before forming the tuna burgers, chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to make them easier to handle and shape.
  • Preheat the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer before cooking the tuna patties. This will help them cook evenly and get crispy on the outside.
  • Brush with oil: Brush the burgers with a small amount of oil before air frying to help them crisp up and prevent them from sticking to the basket.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer: Cook the burgers in batches, if necessary, to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Overcrowding can result in uneven cooking and less crispy burgers.
  • Flip the burgers halfway through cooking: Flip the burgers halfway through cooking to ensure they cook evenly on both sides.

By following these pro tips, you can make delicious and crispy tuna patties in the air fryer that will impress you.

Can I use canned tuna for this recipe?

While fresh tuna is recommended for the best flavor and texture, you can use canned tuna in a pinch. Just make sure to drain the tuna well and press out any excess moisture before mixing it with the other ingredients.

How long do I cook the tuna patties in the air fryer?

Cooking times can vary depending on the size and thickness of the patties as well as the air fryer model you are using. In general, tuna patties should be cooked for 10-12 minutes at 375°F, flipping halfway through cooking.

The patties should be golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through on the inside. You can test for doneness by using a meat thermometer – the internal temperature should reach 145°F.

Can I freeze the tuna patties?

Yes, you can freeze uncooked tuna patties for later use. Simply form the patties, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and freeze until solid.
