Air Fryer Tuna Patties– Being from Boston, my uncles were all fishermen. Therefore, I was treated to a LOT of seafood over the years. There was absolutely nothing better than my uncles dropping off the days’ catch to my mom, who would almost make something amazing. I remember my uncle’s dropping off baby lobsters because no one would buy them, now we all know them as chicken lobsters, and if they were free, there would be a line around the block to get them.
My husband grew up as a good old midwestern boy, but he vacationed every year at Cape Cod, where he ate his share of great seafood.
Air Fryer Tuna Patties
When I moved to Ohio after we got married, I noticed that the seafood was different; they didn’t have lobsters, had crab legs, and literally remember going through the supermarket and saying, what are those? They just looked like something that came from outer space. Instead of cod, they ate salmon. I have never had salmon, so it was an acquired taste. My mother in law made the best salmon that I have ever had. I will probably be making it in the next couple of weeks. She served it with a creamy dill dip that even my son would eat (granted, he would eat it without the salmon, but he would finish his bowl, LOL).
Seafood is important; it’s a great source of protein without a lot of fat. It hits most of the marks, gluten-free, low carb, and other diets.

Tuna patties are a great recipe, and the air fryer is the perfect device to cook your patties. Simple ingredients the perfect amount of flavor.
Why did my tuna patties fall apart?
The biggest thing is to make sure you really mix your patties. Then make sure you use oil to spritz on the outside of the patties and on the tray to prevent them from sticking.
This is a must when it comes to air frying. Just make sure that you do not overcook your patties as well as they can dry out.
Can I Used Canned Tuna For This Recipe
Go right ahead and reach for canned tuna. The biggest thing is to reach for water-based, not oil. The oil can affect how the tuna patties form and hold shape. If all you have is tuna in oil, you can try it, but I can’t fully say if it will work right now.
These tuna cakes are best served fresh. But if you have leftovers, allow them to cool a bit, then transfer them to an airtight container. Then eat cold straight from the fridge or reheat them.
If you end up wanting to freeze some, go right ahead. Just place in the freezer in an airtight container. If you are going to stack, place wax paper between the patties, prevent them from sticking together.
Then thaw in the fridge the night before you plan to eat. Then reheat and enjoy.
What to Serve with Tuna Patties
Serve these up with some coleslaw, a salad, or any other side dish. Even a vegetable side dish can make a great side dish. Now serve these plain or add them to a bun to create a tuna burger if you want. It makes the dish heartier if you opt for a bun!
