How To Make Chinese Crab Casserole In The Air Fryer

Mixing crab meat with scallions, red bell peppers, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Step One: In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, scallions, red bell peppers, salt, and black pepper until evenly mixed.

Adding and mixing mayonnaise into the crab and vegetable mixture.

Step Two: Gently fold in the mayonnaise and stir until fully incorporated.

Step Three: Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and press it evenly. Air fry at 350°F for 5–8 minutes, and remove once it begins to bubble.

Step Four: Cooked before adding cheese.

Step Five: Top the crab casserole with shredded cheese and return it to the air fryer or oven. I used the air fryer’s broiler setting to melt the cheese, but if your air fryer doesn’t have a broiler, heat at 300°F until melted, or use your oven’s broiler until golden and bubbly.

Air Fryer Chinese Buffet Crab Casserole Recipe Tips

  • Use fresh or well-drained imitation crab: Excess moisture can make the casserole soggy, so gently pat the crab meat dry before mixing.
  • Cheese timing matters: Add the cheese near the end of cooking to avoid over-browning or burning.
  • Adjust for air fryer size: Cooking times can vary depending on your model; start checking a minute or two early.
  • Customize your mix-ins: Add diced water chestnuts, mushrooms, or bell peppers for extra crunch and flavor.

Storing, Freezing and Reheating Instructions

  • Storing: Store leftover crab casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Keep it covered to maintain moisture and prevent the top from drying out.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the casserole for up to 2 months; wrap it tightly in foil or freezer-safe containers. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating to preserve texture and flavor.
  • Reheating: Reheat individual portions in the air fryer at 325°F for 5–7 minutes, or until warmed through. Alternatively, cover with foil and warm in a 350°F oven for 10–15 minutes to prevent the cheese from over-browning.

Air Fryer Chinese Buffet Crab Casserole Recipe Faqs

Can I use real crab instead of imitation crab? Absolutely! Fresh or cooked crab meat works beautifully. Just adjust for moisture content to avoid a watery casserole.

Can I make this recipe without an air fryer? Yes! Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10–15 minutes, then broil for a few minutes to melt the cheese.

Can I prepare this ahead of time? You can mix the ingredients and store in the fridge for up to 24 hours before cooking. Just add the cheese right before air frying.

Can I make it spicy? Definitely! Add a dash of sriracha, red pepper flakes, or chopped jalapeños to the mix before cooking.
