Air fryer cherry filled crescent rolls are the kind of treat that feels like cheating — flaky, golden crescent dough wrapped around warm cherry pie filling, drizzled with a simple powdered-sugar glaze, and ready in about 10 minutes from start to finish. There’s no oven to preheat, no stand mixer, and really only two ingredients you have to buy. If you’ve got a tube of refrigerated crescent rolls and a can of cherry pie filling, you’re already most of the way to dessert.

I make these constantly because they hit that sweet spot of fast, easy, and a little bit impressive. They’re great as a quick breakfast with coffee, an after-school snack, or a last-minute dessert when someone stops by. The air fryer gives the dough a beautifully crisp, bakery-style exterior while keeping the cherry center soft and jammy — something a microwave could never do and that the oven takes three times as long to manage.

If this is your first time using the air fryer for pastries, you’re in for a treat. Crescent dough and air fryers were practically made for each other.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Just 2 main ingredients. Refrigerated crescent rolls and cherry pie filling do all the heavy lifting.
  • About 10 minutes, total. Five minutes of prep, five minutes in the air fryer.
  • No oven required, so your kitchen stays cool and cleanup is almost nothing.
  • Crisp outside, soft inside — the air fryer browns the dough evenly without drying out the filling.
  • Totally customizable. Swap the filling, add cream cheese, or change up the glaze.
  • Family-friendly and crowd-pleasing, perfect for breakfast, brunch, snacks, or dessert.

Here’s everything you’ll need to make air fryer cherry filled crescent rolls. Exact amounts are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Ingredients needed for Air Fryer Cherry Crescent Rolls on kitchen table.
  • Refrigerated crescent rolls — one package (such as Pillsbury, 8 count). The pre-made dough is the shortcut that makes this recipe so quick.
  • Cherry pie filling — about 1/2 cup, or roughly one tablespoon per roll. Look for one with whole cherries for the best texture.
  • Powdered sugar — 1/2 cup, for the glaze.
  • Milk — about 1 tablespoon, to thin the glaze to a drizzle.
  • Cooking oil spray or olive oil — to keep the rolls from sticking.
  • Optional: softened cream cheese — a teaspoon per roll turns these into a cherry cream cheese Danish.

How to Make Air Fryer Cherry Filled Crescent Rolls

These come together in just a few simple steps.

Cherry pie filling spooned onto the wide end of crescent roll dough triangles with optional cream cheese base for filling before rolling pastry dessert

Step 1: Separate the dough

Open the can of crescent rolls and unroll the dough on a flat surface like a cutting board. Separate it along the perforations into 8 triangles.

Step 2: Add the cherry filling

Spoon about one tablespoon of cherry pie filling onto the wide end of each triangle. Adding it to the wide end (rather than the center) makes the rolls much easier to roll up neatly. If you’re making the cream cheese version, spread a little softened cream cheese down first, then top with the cherries.

Step 3: Roll them up

Starting at the wide, filling-topped end, roll each crescent toward the point, tucking the filling inside as you go. Pinch the seams gently to help keep everything contained. A little filling peeking out is completely normal.

Step 4: Prep the air fryer basket

Lightly grease the air fryer basket or tray with oil, or line it with perforated parchment paper for easy cleanup. Arrange the rolls in a single layer with space between them — they puff and expand as they cook, so don’t crowd them.

Step 5: Air fry

Cook at 320°F for 5 minutes, until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through. Larger rolls may need an extra minute or two, so check for doneness before pulling them out.

Step 6: Make the glaze and finish

While the rolls cool, whisk together 1/2 cup powdered sugar with about a tablespoon of milk, adding the milk a few drops at a time until you get a thick, drizzle-able glaze. Let the rolls cool for about 5 minutes (so the icing doesn’t melt off), then drizzle the glaze over the top. Serve warm and enjoy.

Tips for the Best Cherry Crescent Rolls

  • Don’t overfill. One tablespoon per roll is the magic number — more than that and the filling bursts out as the dough expands.
  • Give them room. Crowding the basket leads to uneven browning and soft spots. Cook in batches if your air fryer is small; later batches will cook slightly faster since the basket is already hot.
  • Seal as you roll. A gentle pinch along the seam keeps more of the cherry inside.
  • Always cool before glazing. Icing on hot rolls slides right off. A 5-minute rest is the sweet spot.
  • Know your air fryer. Every model runs a little differently, so the first time you make these, check at the 4-minute mark.

Delicious Variations

One of the best things about this recipe is how easy it is to change up.

  • Chocolate drizzle: Add a drizzle of melted chocolate over the icing for an extra-decadent dessert.
  • Other pie fillings: Apple, blueberry, strawberry, peach, and lemon all work beautifully with the same time and temperature.
  • Cherry cream cheese Danish: Add a teaspoon of sweetened softened cream cheese under the cherries before rolling for a richer, bakery-style pastry.
  • Cinnamon sugar: Skip the glaze, brush the warm rolls with melted butter, and dust with cinnamon sugar.
  • Almond cherry: Stir a drop of almond extract into the glaze — almond and cherry are a classic pairing.

How to Store and Reheat

Store leftover cherry crescent rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. To bring back that fresh-from-the-air-fryer texture, reheat them at 320°F for 2 to 3 minutes — the outside crisps up again while the inside stays soft. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months; reheat straight from frozen in the air fryer, adding a couple of extra minutes.

Equipment You’ll Need

  • Air fryer (basket or oven-style — an Instant Pot Vortex Plus works great)
  • Cutting board or flat work surface
  • Small bowl and whisk for the glaze
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make cherry crescent rolls without an air fryer? Yes. Bake them on a parchment-lined sheet in a conventional oven at 350°F for about 10 to 12 minutes, until golden.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer? Preheating isn’t necessary for this quick recipe, but a 2-minute preheat helps the rolls brown more evenly if your model heats up fast.

Why did my filling leak out? This is almost always from overfilling or not sealing the dough. Stick to about a tablespoon per roll and pinch the seams as you roll.

Can I use homemade dough? Definitely. Roll homemade crescent or croissant dough thin, then fill and cook as directed, adjusting the time as needed.

Can I use a different fruit filling? Absolutely — apple, blueberry, strawberry, peach, and lemon all use the same temperature and cook time.

Are these better as breakfast or dessert? Both! They’re sweet enough for dessert but quick and portable enough to grab on a busy morning.
