📝 Ingredients Needed

Ingredients needed for Copycat Outback Baked Potatoes on kitchen table.
  • Large russet potatoes
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Coarse kosher salt (for that signature crust)
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, shredded cheddar, chives, bacon bits, butter

🔥 How to Make Copycat Outback Baked Potatoes

Place the baked potato into the air fryer basket.

Step 1: Scrub the russet potatoes thoroughly and pat them dry with a towel. Prick each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape while baking.

Step 2: Rub each potato with olive oil until fully coated. Then, roll the potatoes in coarse kosher salt to coat the skins—this is key to that signature steakhouse texture.

Place seasonings onto the baked potatoes.

Step 3: Baking Instructions: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the potatoes directly on the middle oven rack and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and the inside is soft when pierced with a fork. Air Frying Instructions: Air fry at 400°F for 35–40 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Step 4: Slice open, fluff the insides with a fork, and add your favorite toppings!

🥡 Storing & Reheating

  • Store: Wrap leftover baked potatoes in foil or an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat: For best results, reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through, or use an air fryer for 5–8 minutes to restore crispiness.

🍽️ What to Serve With Outback-Style Baked Potatoes

These potatoes are the perfect side for grilled steak, BBQ chicken, pork chops, or roasted veggies. They also make a filling lunch or dinner on their own when loaded with toppings!

❓ FAQ – Copycat Outback Baked Potatoes

Can I use sea salt instead of kosher salt? Yes, but kosher salt gives a coarser texture and more authentic steakhouse-style crust.

Do I need to wrap them in foil? No! For crispy skin like Outback’s, skip the foil. Baking directly on the rack is key.

Can I make these in the air fryer? Absolutely. Air fry at 400°F for 35–40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
