What is a Soft Boiled Egg?

A soft boiled egg is a cooked egg where the egg white is completely set, but the yolk stays nice and runny. Regular hard boiled eggs feature a fully cooked yolk.

Soft boiled eggs are sometimes referred to as “dunkie” eggs because you can dip or “dunk” a piece of toast into the yolk. This fun breakfast option is often called Soldiers and Eggs!

How To Make Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs

Below you’ll find my step-by-step instructions for making soft boiled eggs in air fryer! This recipe moves pretty quickly once you get going, and is incredibly easy.

Step 1: Place the eggs in an air fryer safe pan

Start by placing your eggs in an air fryer safe pan — any oven safe pan will work as long as it fits in your air fryer. You can technically even place the eggs directly in the basket, but I usually use a pan so they don’t roll around.

Step 2: Add the pan to the air fryer

Place the pan with the eggs in it inside the basket.

Step 3: Air fry

Set the temperature to 250 degrees F and air fry the soft boiled eggs for 8 minutes.

Step 4: Cool in a water bath

When your air fryer soft boiled eggs are done, place them in a bowl of cold water to cool. Remember, you still want the eggs hot, but not burning to the point where you can’t peel them.

Air Fry Soft Boiled Eggs Pro Tips

  • You may have to experiment with your air fryer settings as each one is slightly different. I suggest that you start with 1 egg at 250 degrees F for 8 minutes to see how it comes out. If you want your air fryer soft boiled eggs to be more or less done, make note of the timing. That way, the next time you go to make them, they’ll come out perfectly cooked!
  • Room-temperature eggs work best. Take your eggs out of the fridge and let them come to room temperature on the countertop for about 20-30 minutes.
  • This recipe will work for air fryer oven models, air fryer basket models, Ninja Foodi models, and the new Instant Pot crisp lids.
  • Fresh chicken eggs will not work as well as regular store-bought eggs.
  • This soft boiled egg air fryer recipe will work for other types of eggs like emu, ostrich, etc.

Soft Boiled Eggs in Air Fryer FAQs

Is a soft boiled egg considered raw?

Soft boiled eggs are partially raw, which means there’s a small chance you may get ill from them. That said, the risks are minimal. If you have a health condition, you may want to refrain from making this recipe. Always consult your doctor with any concerns.

How to remove the tops of soft boiled eggs?

While there are a few tools that you can purchase to remove the top of the egg, I typically just use a spoon.

What temperature do you cook eggs at in the air fryer?

All air fryer egg recipes are different, but to soft boil eggs in air fryer, set the temperature to 250 degrees F.

Is it safe to boil eggs in air fryer?

Yes, it’s safe to air fry soft boiled eggs. In fact, you aren’t technically boiling the eggs when you make them in the air fryer as there is no water needed! The hot air will circulate around them and mimic the same temperature as boiling water, which is why it works.

Storage

Air fryer soft boiled eggs will last for a couple of days in the refrigerator. You can use your air fryer to reheat them too — about 3 minutes at 250 degrees F should heat them up nicely.

Description

Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs are my new favorite breakfast. They come out perfect every time, are so easy and so fast in the air fryer, and best of all, I don't have to watch them on the stove!

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  • Start by placing your eggs in an air fryer safe pan, 2 reasons I do this because you could just put them in. 1. I’m afraid they would break inside the basket since they roll so much. 2. They are easier to get when they are done.
  • Place the pan with the eggs in it, inside the basket.
  • Set the temperature to 250 degrees F for 8 minutes.
  • When they are done, place them into a cup of cold water. Remember you still want the eggs hot, but not burning, so you can’t peel them.
  • Plate, serve and enjoy!
