You don’t need an oven, a Dutch oven, or an afternoon to bake real bread at home. Your air fryer can turn out a crusty sourdough, a soft sandwich loaf, or a pan of garlicky focaccia in well under an hour, and most of these recipes use ingredients you already have.
Air fryers work for bread because they’re small, hot, and fast. The compact chamber heats up in minutes, the circulating air browns the crust evenly, and a loaf that would take 35 to 45 minutes in a conventional oven is often done in 15 to 25. That makes them ideal for small batches, weeknight baking, and summer days when you’d rather not heat up the whole kitchen.
Below are ten of my favorite bread recipes from Fork To Spoon, every one baked in the air fryer. They range from true from-scratch yeast loaves to five-minute shortcuts that start with a can of refrigerated dough. Pick one that matches the time you have.
The 10 recipes
1. Air Fryer Sourdough Bread

If you’ve been feeding a starter and wondering whether it’s worth the effort, this loaf is your answer. It uses just five pantry ingredients plus an active starter and bakes at 375°F on a sheet of parchment right in the basket. The result is a golden, crackly crust over a soft, tangy crumb, with no Dutch oven required. A 5.8-quart or larger basket gives the loaf room to rise.
2. Easy Farmhouse White Sandwich Bread

This is the everyday loaf: soft, slightly sweet, and sturdy enough for sandwiches and toast. The dough comes together with flour, sugar, yeast, and butter, gets one rise, then is shaped to fit the basket and baked at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Tap the bottom; when it sounds hollow, it’s done. Let it cool fully before slicing so the center sets.
3. Air Fryer Whole Wheat Bread

A hearty, fiber-rich loaf that’s easier than it looks. Whole wheat flour, instant yeast, salt, and a handful of sunflower seeds are mixed with warm water, shaped, and air fried at 390°F for 15 to 18 minutes. The seeds add crunch to the crust and a nutty flavor throughout. Wrapped in a clean cloth, it keeps at room temperature for about three days.
4. Air Fryer Boston Brown Bread

No yeast, no rising, no waiting. This New England classic is a quick bread of whole wheat flour, cornmeal, buttermilk, and molasses, studded with raisins. The batter is scored, set on parchment, and baked at 350°F for about 25 minutes. It’s dense, dark, and lightly sweet, a natural partner for baked beans or a smear of cream cheese.
5. Air Fryer Focaccia Bread

Focaccia is the most forgiving bread you can make, and the air fryer version starts with pizza dough. Press it into an oiled pan, drizzle with olive oil, and scatter minced garlic, rosemary, black olives, and a pinch of Italian seasoning on top. Ten to fifteen minutes at 350°F gives you crisp edges and a tender, dimpled middle. Preheat the air fryer first so the dough puffs right away.
6. Air Fryer Star Bread

The showpiece of the list. A sweet yeasted dough is layered with brown sugar and cinnamon, cut and twisted into a star, brushed with egg wash, and baked at 330°F for 12 to 15 minutes. A quick brown sugar glaze with a splash of orange juice goes on while it’s still warm. It looks like it took all day; it didn’t.
7. Air Fryer Gluten-Free Banana Bread (Vegan)

Three ripe bananas, gluten-free flour, applesauce, and vegan butter make a loaf that’s moist and tender without eggs or dairy. It bakes in a small loaf pan at 320°F for 15 to 20 minutes, until a knife comes out clean. This is the one to make when the bananas on the counter are past their prime.
8. Air Fryer Everything French Bread

The fastest loaf here. Unroll a can of refrigerated French bread dough, cut it in half so it fits the basket, brush with melted butter, and shower it with Everything But The Bagel seasoning. Six minutes at 320°F and you have a warm, seeded loaf for soup night. Add a couple more minutes if the crust isn’t quite golden.
9. Air Fryer Olive Cheese Bread

Part bread, part appetizer. A loaf of French or Italian bread is halved and toasted in the basket, then topped with a chopped green-and-black-olive mixture and a heap of shredded cheese. A few more minutes at 300°F melts the cheese into the olives. Buy whole olives and shred your own cheese for the best texture.
10. Air Fryer Copycat Little Caesars Crazy Bread

Save the delivery fee. Refrigerated pizza dough is rolled out, cut into strips, and air fried at 320°F for just a few minutes until puffed and golden. The hot breadsticks get brushed with garlic-salt butter and dusted with Parmesan. Serve with marinara and watch them disappear.
Tips for baking bread in the air fryer
- Always preheat. Three to five minutes at the target temperature gives the dough an immediate burst of heat, which is what makes it rise and brown instead of drying out.
- Use parchment paper. Line the basket and leave the sides open so air can still circulate. It keeps sticky doughs from welding to the basket and makes lifting the loaf out easy.
- Size the loaf to the basket. Dough rises up and out. Leave at least an inch of clearance from the heating element, and split larger recipes into two smaller loaves if needed.
- Tent with foil if the top browns too fast. Air fryers heat from above, so a loaf can look done before the inside is. A loose piece of foil for the last third of the bake fixes that.
- Check with a toothpick or a thermometer. For quick breads, a toothpick should come out clean. For yeast breads, an internal temperature of 190°F to 200°F means it’s baked through.
- Every air fryer runs a little differently. The times above are starting points. Check two minutes early the first time, and write down what worked.
- Let it cool before slicing. Cutting into a hot loaf lets steam escape and leaves the crumb gummy. Ten minutes on a wire rack is enough for small loaves.
Which one will you bake first?
If you’re new to air fryer bread, start with the Everything French Bread or the Crazy Bread: both take under ten minutes and prove how well the method works. Once you’ve seen the crust it produces, move on to the sandwich loaf or the sourdough and you may never go back to the oven.
