How To Make Easy Air Fryer Chicken Tikka Rice Bowl

Bowl of chicken pieces coated in yogurt, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, and spices, ready to marinate.

Step One: In a large bowl, combine yogurt, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Coat the chicken breasts bites evenly with the marinade and let sit for at least 30 minutes.

Step Two: Set your air fryer temperature to 400 degrees F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes while the chicken marinates.

Chicken pieces arranged in the air fryer basket, cooking to golden and slightly charred perfection.

Step Three: Lightly brush the air fryer basket with vegetable oil. Place marinated chicken pieces in the basket and cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until cooked through and slightly charred.

Sliced chicken served over rice with colorful vegetables, garnished with fresh herbs and a squeeze of lemon.

Step Four: While the chicken cooks, prepare basmati rice according to package instructions. Fluff with a fork when done. Steam, sauté, or roast your choice of mixed vegetables until tender but still crisp.

Step Five: Slice the cooked chicken and serve over a bed of basmati rice. Top with the mixed vegetables and drizzle with any remaining sauce or a squeeze of fresh lemon if desired. Sprinkle with fresh herbs like cilantro or green onions for extra flavor and color.

Easy Air Fryer Chicken Tikka Rice Bowl Recipe Tips

  • Marinate Longer for More Flavor: Let the chicken sit in the yogurt and spice mixture for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the fridge for deeper flavor and tenderness.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Air Fryer: Cook the chicken in a single layer to ensure even cooking and a slightly charred, crispy exterior.
  • Adjust Spice Levels: Modify the amount of garam masala, paprika, or black pepper to suit your preferred heat level.
  • Cook Vegetables Separately: Lightly steam or sauté your mixed vegetables instead of air frying with the chicken to keep them tender but crisp.
  • Use Fresh Herbs for Garnish: Sprinkle cilantro, parsley, or green onions at the end for a pop of color and fresh flavor.
  • Make Ahead for Meal Prep: The chicken, rice, and veggies can be prepped in advance and stored separately in airtight containers for easy weeknight meals.
  • Optional Toppings: Add a dollop of plain yogurt, a squeeze of lemon, or a drizzle of your favorite chutney to enhance the flavors.

Storing, Freezing and Reheating Instructions

  • Storing: Keep cooked chicken, rice, and vegetables in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days to maintain freshness.
  • Freezing: Place the chicken, rice, and vegetables in separate freezer-safe containers or bags and freeze for up to 2–3 months.
  • Reheating: Reheat in the microwave or in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, adding a splash of water or oil to prevent drying.

Easy Air Fryer Chicken Tikka Rice Bowl Recipe Faqs

Can I use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts? Yes! Boneless, skinless chicken thighs work perfectly and will stay extra juicy. Adjust cooking time slightly if the pieces are larger.

Can I make this recipe spicier? Absolutely! Increase the garam masala, paprika, or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to suit your heat preference.

Can I use frozen vegetables? Yes, frozen vegetables are a convenient option. Just steam or sauté them briefly to prevent excess moisture from making the rice soggy.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time? You can marinate the chicken up to 24 hours in advance and prep the rice and vegetables separately. Store in airtight containers in the fridge for quick assembly later.

Can I serve this without rice? Definitely! Serve the chicken and vegetables on a salad base or with cauliflower rice for a low-carb version.
