Step One: Prepare Your Chicken

Dice chicken into bite size pieces in sections

Step Two: Prepare Your Dredging Stations

Create an assembly line for breading the pieces of chicken. Place flour and black pepper in a large bowl, ½ cup buttermilk in another, and then place panko bread crumbs and salt in a medium mixing bowl.  

Dip chicken pieces in flour. Then, dip in buttermilk batter, then panko breadcrumbs until evenly coated.

Step Three: Prepare Chicken Pieces For Air Frying

Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray or non-stick cooking spray.

Place the coated chicken in a basket in a single layer, and spray the top of the chicken with olive oil spray. Set to 390 degrees F, air fryer setting, for 5 minutes. Flip, spray with olive oil spray, and cook for five more minutes. Remember, you will probably need to cook in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.

Step Four; Prepare Creamy Spicy Sauce

Create bang bang sauce by mixing sriracha, mayonnaise, and sweet chili sauce, in a small bowl. Whisk mayonnaise mixture until smooth. Gently toss the chicken in the mayonnaise mixture. Garnish with green onions, serve with your favorite hot sauce or dipping sauce, and enjoy!

This dish can really benefit from a crispy chicken underneath the sauce. You want to ensure you have a great chicken base to add to the sauce. Here are some of my suggestions for making the best Air Fryer Bang Bang Chicken dish.

  • Spray your chicken with cooking spray. If you want any breading to crisp up in the air fryer, you need to ensure it’s well covered with cooking spray.
  • Shake the basket throughout the cooking process so each piece of chicken gets crisped up.
  • To prevent your chicken from drying out, I suggest using a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is cooked throughout but not overcooked, which will tend to dry out the chicken.

You are in for a real treat if you have never had Bang Bang Chicken sauce. With only a few ingredients, you create a great sauce. This is one of my favorite creamy sweet chili mayo recipes, and it’s so good.

It combines mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and Sriracha sauce. It creates a great flavor combination. All of the items are located in the Asian section of your grocery store and are readily available.

You can serve some extra sauce on the side for dipping if you have any extra. My kids love eating this sauce on their chicken nuggets, so if you have any leftovers, store them for later.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup buttermilk, divided
  • 1 pound chicken tenderloins
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sriracha sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup green onions, diced

Instructions

  • Dice chicken into 1” sections.
  • Create a station for breading the chicken. Put flour and pepper in one bowl, ½ cup buttermilk in another, and panko bread crumbs and salt in the last bowl. 
  • Dip chicken in flour. Then, dip in buttermilk, then panko bread crumbs until evenly coated.
