Pro Tips For Cooking Air Fryer Almond Crusted Cod

  • Pat Dry: Always pat the cod dry before applying any coatings. This ensures that the almond crust adheres well and gives a crispier outcome.
  • Finely Processed Almonds: For an even and crispy crust, make sure the almonds are finely ground. This provides a smoother coating and even cooking.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: A preheated air fryer ensures the cod starts cooking immediately upon placement, sealing in the juices.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Place the cod pieces in a single layer without overlapping to allow proper air circulation and even browning.
  • Seasoning Matters: Enhance the flavor of your almond crust by adding seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, or even some grated Parmesan.
  • Check Doneness: Use a thermometer to ensure the cod reaches an internal temperature of at least 145°F (63°C). This ensures the fish is safely cooked and remains juicy.
  • Use Oil Sparingly: A light spray or brushing of oil can enhance the crispiness of the almond crust without making it too greasy.
  • Quick Serve: Almond-crusted cod is best served immediately from the air fryer to maintain its crispy texture. Pair with a light lemon wedge or a drizzle of your favorite sauce for added flavor.

How can I ensure the almond crust sticks to the fish?

Patting the fish dry, dipping it in an egg wash, and pressing the almond mixture firmly onto the fish helps the crust adhere better.

Notes

Storage Instructions for Air Fryer Almond Crusted Cod:
  1. Refrigerating Leftovers: Place any leftover almond-crusted cod in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
  2. Reheating: To maintain its crispiness, reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F (177°C) for about 3-4 minutes or until heated through. Avoid using the microwave, as it can make the crust soggy.
  3. Freezing Uncooked Prepared Fish: You can freeze almond-crusted cod before cooking. Arrange the prepared fish pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag or container and store for up to 3 months. When ready to cook, you can cook them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the air fryer cooking time.
  4. Freezing Cooked Fish: Let the cooked almond-crusted cod cool completely. Place them on a baking sheet in a single layer and freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen pieces to an airtight container or freezer bag. Store for up to 1 month. To serve, reheat directly from frozen in the air fryer to maintain crispiness.
  5. Tips: For the best flavor and texture, consume the reheated almond-crusted cod immediately. Remember, frequent temperature changes can affect the quality, so it’s best to reheat only what you’ll consume.
