How to Make Easy Avocado Egg Air Fryer Recipe

Step 1: Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit.

Step 2: Carefully break the egg directly into the hole in the avocado. Depending on the size of the pit, you may need to make the hole bigger with a spoon. Season with salt and pepper, then add any cheese or other toppings.

Step 3: Set your air fryer temperature to 400 degrees F. Place each avocado egg in the air fryer basket on top of a small ramekin and set cook time for 9-12 minutes.

Step 4: Start checking for doneness around the 5-minute mark — your air fryer avocado egg will go from baked to hot mess very quickly. Remove from the basket when golden brown and creamy, and the cheese is melted (if using). Add more seasonings if needed. I usually serve this with toast for my kids so they can dunk the eggs in the egg yolk.

Easy Avocado Egg Air Fryer Recipe Tips

  • Choose a Ripe Avocado: This is so important I have to mention it twice! Ripe avocados will be slightly soft to the touch with dark yellow or green skin. Skip ones that are too hard or too soft.
  • When you remove the pit, be careful not to pierce the skin. This way, no egg leaks out while they cook.
  • Crack Gently: You don’t want to break that yolk! If you’re worried about your egg-cracking skills, you can always crack them in a small bowl first before adding to the avocado.
  • Use Ramekins: I usually position each avocado half on top of a small ramekin — this allows the hot air to circulate evenly around them as they cook. It also prevents tipping and will catch any toppings that falls off.
  • Check the eggs frequently since each air fryer is slightly different. For the best results, check for doneness after around 5 minutes and remove them when they are set.
  • Egg Allergy: If you’re allergic to eggs, you can use an egg substitute and pour it in. The recipe will work the same way.
  • More Topping Ideas: Fresh tomatoes, a dash of hot sauce, fresh herbs, bacon crumbles, sausage bits, or a dollop of sour cream would all taste great!

Storing, Reheating and Make-Ahead Instructions

  • Storing: Store leftover avocado egg halves in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Keep them covered to maintain freshness and prevent the avocado from browning.
  • Reheating: Reheat in the air fryer at 325°F for 2–3 minutes until the eggs are warmed through. You can also use a microwave for 30–45 seconds, but the avocado may soften slightly.
  • Make-Ahead: You can prepare the avocado halves and season them in advance, then store in the fridge until ready to cook. Add the eggs just before air frying to ensure perfectly cooked eggs every time.

Easy Avocado Egg Air Fryer Recipe Faqs

Can I use a frozen avocado? It’s best to use fresh, ripe avocados. Frozen avocados can become mushy and may not hold the egg properly.

Can I cook both eggs at the same time? Yes, as long as your air fryer basket has enough space for both avocado halves without overcrowding.

How do I know when the eggs are done? The eggs are done when the whites are fully set but the yolks are still slightly soft, or cooked to your preferred doneness.

Can I add toppings? Absolutely! Sprinkle cheese, cooked bacon, herbs, or a dash of hot sauce before or after air frying.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time? You can prep the avocado halves in advance, but add the eggs just before cooking to ensure the best texture and doneness.

Can I use other types of eggs? Yes, you can use free-range, organic, or even duck eggs if desired, just adjust cooking time slightly for larger eggs.

Can this be reheated? Yes, reheat gently in the air fryer at 325°F for 2–3 minutes or in the microwave for 30–45 seconds.
