I stumbled upon a recipe for Kourabiedes (Greek sugar cookies) and knew I had to try them. The recipe is very simple, and the dough comes together quickly, and they cook amazingly in the Air Fryer!

There are many variations of this type of cookie depending on where you live, but these Greek ones have a more subtle flavor than some of the others I’ve tried. They’re not too sweet but still pleasantly flavored with vanilla extract and Brandy. These would be perfect as part of your holiday dessert spread or even served alongside Air Fryer Italian Cannolis!

If you love cookies as much as my family, you will soon realize that the Air Fryer is a great place to make a batch of homemade cookies!

They are so good!

What Are Kourabiedes?

Kourabiedes are Greek cookies made with flour, butter, powdered sugar, and flavored with brandy. The name “kourabiede” comes from the Greek word for “golden.” Kourabiedes can be eaten alone or dipped in tea. They’re an easy-to-make recipe that everyone will love!

Kourabiedes are a popular Greek dessert that resembles little snowballs. These tasty treats should be eaten while still warm with vanilla ice cream or yogurt on the side for an extra creamy treat!

In fact, they were traditionally served at weddings and other special occasions to symbolize fertility and prosperity! If you’ve never tried this delicious dessert before, I highly recommend them.

Mix the flour, baking powder, butter, powdered sugar, egg yolk, brandy, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl.

Mix well, being sure to scrape the sides down. I use an ice cream scooper to get my round cookies. Spray your air fryer tray (or line your basket with parchment paper) with cooking spray, and then scoop the batter onto the pan (about 1 tablespoon)

Use a spoon to flatten the cookies. Set the tray into the air fryer and set the temperature to 320 degrees F for 5 minutes.

Let them cool as they come out of the air fryer oven. I did two batches.  Then, coat them with powdered sugar.

Make Ahead

Yes! We let them cool completely, store them in an airtight container, and warm them up before coating them with powdered sugar. At room temperature, they will last for about two to three days.

You can also freeze them for six months if that works better for you – make sure to coat them without powdered sugar so they don’t become soggy when thawed out again later.

Pro Tips

  • If you want a fluffy cookie, cream the sugar and butter together, creating air pockets in the cookie dough for a fluffier cookie.
  • Try to make all cookies about the same size so that they all air fry up together.
  • Use a spoon to flatten out the cookie so that it bakes evenly.
  • Line your basket with either parchment paper or a reusable silicone air fryer liner, for best results. Otherwise, you will find that your dough falls through the basket holes.
  • When you go to roll your cookies into the powdered sugar, they should be cool, otherwise, the cookies will melt the powdered sugar.
  • You can eliminate brandy if you want a family-friendly dessert. But you do not taste the brandy.
  • You can add about 1 to 2 teaspoons of sesame seeds if you wish.
