How To Make Tilapia On Ninja Woodfire Grill
Here are the step by step instructions on how to make Tilapia on the Woodfire Grill, the complete directions are below in the printable recipe card, at the bottom of the post:
Place a scoop of food-grade wood pellets into the wood pellet burner of your Ninja Woodfire grill. Turn on the Ninja Woodfire grill to the ‘Grill’ setting. Press the Woodfire Flavor Technology button. Next, set the heat to ‘Low’ heat. Allow the Ninja Woodfire to Preheat. Be sure to not add food to the Ninja Woodfire until the display says ‘Add Food’, otherwise you risk your filets falling apart due to sticking to a cold grill.
While the Ninja Woodfire is preheating, pat each tilapia dry with a paper towel. Press down gently to absorb any extra moisture. You want minimum excess moisture or your breading will not stick correctly to your filet.
Crack the two eggs into a medium to large bowl. Beat the eggs for 1-2 minutes. Dip each tilapia filet in the egg and then coat in the breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs into the filet as needed.
Allow the tilapia filet to sit for a few minutes before adding to the preheated Ninja Woodfire grill. Grill the tilapia filets for 5 minutes on Low Heat. After 5 minutes, spray the filets with avocado oil. Then, flip the tilapia filets, spray again, and set to Medium Heat for 5 minutes. The tilapia is done when it has reached an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ninja Woodfire Grill Tilapia Recipe Tips
- Preheat the Grill: Always preheat the Ninja Woodfire Grill to ensure even cooking and a crispy exterior. This step helps achieve the best texture and flavor.
- Pat Dry the Tilapia: Make sure the tilapia filets are thoroughly dried with paper towels before seasoning. This helps the oil and breadcrumbs adhere better, resulting in a crispier crust.
- Use a Light Coating of Oil: Lightly spray the tilapia with avocado oil cooking spray to enhance crispiness and prevent sticking. Avoid over-spraying, as it can make the coating soggy.
- Season Generously: Don’t be shy with the seasoning. Ensure the tilapia is well-seasoned before breading to enhance its flavor and make each bite delicious.
- Check for Doneness: Tilapia cooks quickly, so check for doneness around the 8-10 minute mark. The fish should be opaque and flake easily with a fork.
- Avoid Overcrowding: Cook the tilapia filets in batches if necessary. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and a less crispy texture.
- Rest the Fish: Allow the tilapia to rest for a few minutes after cooking. This helps the coating set and makes it easier to serve.
- Experiment with Seasonings: Feel free to adjust the seasoning and breading to suit your taste. Adding herbs or spices can give your tilapia a unique and personalized flavor.
