Description

Ingredients 

  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, defrosted, but cold
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, grated
  • 12 ounces asparagus
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Orange Zest, optional
  • 2 tablespoon Hazelnuts, optional, Diced Hazelnuts (or other nuts)

Instructions

  • In a small frying pan or saute pan, heat the 2 teaspoons butter and saute the 1 large onion over medium-high heat until softened, for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Roll out the 1 sheet puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness, about 1/8 inch thick.1 large onion
  • Use a sharp knife to score a border about 1 inch from the edge of the pastry sheet. Be careful not to cut all the way through. Prick the inside of the pastry (inside the border) with a fork to prevent it from puffing up too much during air frying.
  • Brush the crust with beaten 1 large egg Preheat the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees F, using the air fryer setting, preheat for 3-4 minutes. Place parchment paper into the air fryer basket AFTER PREHEATING; otherwise, it will become a fire risk.
  • Add your puff pastry on top of the parchment paper, add the grated 1 cup Gruyere cheese to the center of the pastry dough, and then add the sauteed onions. Add the 12 ounces asparagus in a single layer on top of the onions. You may need to cut the asparagus to fit the picture frame puff pastry box.
  • Set the cook time for 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees F; remove when fully cooked.
  • Remove from the air fryer basket, with a spatula, and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Slice the tart along the scored border lines, and serve while still warm. Garnish with fresh herbs, 2 tablespoon Hazelnuts, or 1 tablespoon Orange Zest.
