What Is Different About The Chick-fil-A Sandwich?
If you have never eaten at Chick-Fil-A, let me tell you, their chicken sandwiches are amazing!
But why are they so different? The first is that the chicken is brined in pickle juice! Not only is it brined in pickle juice, but it’s also brined in buttermilk. This process creates a tender and delicious chicken! Tender, juicy, and when it’s air-fried, it’s incredible!

How To Make Air Fryer Chicken Sandwich (Chick-fil-A Copycat)

Start by trimming the fat off the chicken sandwiches and then slice the breasts in half. Place the chicken in the buttermilk/pickle mixture. Cover and refrigerate for about 2 hours.
After marinating the chicken, in another bowl, mix the egg and milk. In another bowl, add the flour, powdered sugar, and spices.

Dip your chicken into the egg/milk and then into the flour mixture. As you coat your chicken, place them into the air fryer basket. Spray generously with either olive oil or peanut oil.
Set the temperature to 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Then increase the temperature to 400 degrees for another 4 to 8 minutes.

MILK VS. BUTTERMILK IN AIR FRYER COPYCAT CHICK-FIL-A CHICKEN SANDWICH:
I find that buttermilk works better for chicken marinading since it tenderizes the meat. If you do not have any, make your own with 1 cup of milk, and one tablespoon of white vinegar, or lemon juice, mix well. And then, add your chicken to the buttermilk mixture.
What does marinating chicken in buttermilk do?
Buttermilk is excellent for tenderizing chicken. It has a slight acidity which helps your meat come out soft without being chewy, resulting in a tender and juicy piece of chicken.
How long to marinate chicken in buttermilk?
Do you know how long to marinate chicken in buttermilk? Many factors affect the length of time required, such as the type and thickness of the meat, the size, and shape of the container, temperature, and consistency of the marinade.
Generally speaking, though, it takes at least 30 minutes for a 1-inch thick piece to reach full flavor potential.
DO I REALLY NEED TO USE POWDERED SUGAR?
Since this is a copycat recipe, the original called for powdered sugar, the powdered sugar is nothing more than finer granulated sugar. The reason why Chick-fil-a uses it is that it mixes well with all-purpose flour. Which producers a smoother flour breading for the chicken.

PEANUT OIL SUBSTITUTES:
Chick-Fil-A uses peanut oil to coat the chicken before it’s fried. Since we are air frying the chicken, you can also use olive oil.
If you want a true copycat version, this peanut oil will work well in your air fryer!
DOES CHICK-FIL-A USE PICKLE JUICE?
Yes, Chick-fil-a brines the chicken in dill pickle juice, which you can now find Walmart, a whole jar, without the pickles. But you can also purchase the pickles and eat the pickles separately if you can not find a jar of pickle juice!
The dill pickle brine creates a tender chicken juice since the acid helps break down the chicken fibers to make a tender and juicy chicken breast! Oh, so good!

STORAGE AND REHEATING INSTRUCTIONS:
My advice would be to eat these soon after they are air-fried. There is nothing better than a fresh Air Fryer Chicken Sandwich (Chick-fil-A Copycat).
But store any leftovers into an airtight container after they have cooled to room temperature. You can reheat them in the microwave or air fryer, heat them until warmed through.
