How To Make Air Fryer Pumpkin Cream Donuts
Begin by assembling your pumpkin custard by mixing the spices, half and half, and pudding mix in a medium bowl until the ingredients are well combined. Place the bowl in the fridge until the mixture is set.
In a medium bowl, whisk together your milk, yeast, and one teaspoon of white sugar. Cover the bowl with a dishcloth and sit until the mixture is foamy. This will take 3-5 minutes.
In a large bowl or stand mixer, whisk the remaining sugar, white flour, and ground cinnamon. Pour in the yeast mixture and add your melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Whisk the mixture until the ingredients are homogenous and no pockets of flour remain.
Dump the donut dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead by hand for about five minutes. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and allow it to rise for 30 minutes.
After the dough has risen, roll it out into a sheet about ¼ – ½ inch thick and use a cup or biscuit cutter to cut out 4-inch circles. Cover these circles with plastic wrap again and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat your air fryer to 350 Fahrenheit for five minutes, and then place three donuts in your air fryer basket.
Cook the donuts for 3 minutes at 350 Fahrenheit. Allow the donuts to cool before using an icing or Ziploc bag to fill them with the pumpkin custard. Serve and enjoy!
Filling Variations:
Today, we used a classic pumpkin cream, which works well with the pumpkin donuts. But you can easily switch the filling out to any of the following:
- Custard Filling
- Chocolate Filing
- Vanilla Filling
How Do I Tell When The Donuts Have Finished Baking?
To determine if your donuts are done, use a toothpick to poke one of the donuts in the center. If there is nothing on the toothpick, you can remove the donuts.
If you have liquid (batter) on the toothpick, your donuts will need more minutes.
Storing Air Fryer Pumpkin Donuts
These donuts, before filling them, can be stored for about 2 to 3 days at room temperature. Place them into an airtight container.
Once you fill the donuts, you will need to refrigerate them. Eat them within a few hours of serving the donuts for best results.
Can I Freeze Donuts
These donuts can easily be frozen, although I would not recommend that you fill them before freezing.
Let the donuts cool to room temperature, wrap them tightly in saran wrap, and add them to a freezer bag or freezer-safe container. They will last for about 1 to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature before adding the filling.
What Air Fryer To Use
Today, I used my Ninja Foodi 9 in 1, Pressure Cooker and Air Fryer, which is a great way to save on space since it does the work of both a pressure cooker and air fryer. But this recipe will work in any air fryer basket or oven model.
