Easy Air Fryer Popovers Recipe Faqs
Can I use a muffin tin instead of a popover pan? Yes, a muffin tin works well, though the popovers may not puff as tall as in a popover pan.
Do I need to preheat the air fryer? Preheating helps the popovers rise evenly and develop a crisp exterior, but some models cook fine without preheating.
Why did my popovers collapse? Opening the air fryer basket too early or overmixing the batter can cause them to deflate.
Can I make sweet or savory popovers? Absolutely! Add sugar, cinnamon, or chocolate chips for sweet popovers, or herbs, cheese, or garlic for savory ones.
How should I serve them? Serve warm with butter, jam, honey, or use them as a base for eggs, soups, or savory fillings.
Can I freeze air fryer popovers? Yes, cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze up to 1 month. Reheat in the air fryer or oven to restore crispiness.

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 330 degrees F (165°C) for 3-5 minutes. Whisk the flour, milk, eggs, salt, and melted butter in a large mixing bowl until smooth. The batter should be thin and pourable.
- Generously grease the cups of a popover pan or a muffin tin with cooking spray or oil. Grease the sides and bottoms thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Fill each cup of the popover pan or muffin tin about three-quarters full with the batter. Do not overfill, as the popovers will expand during baking.
- Carefully place the filled popover pan or muffin tin in the preheated air fryer basket. If your air fryer has a small capacity, you may need to bake the popovers in batches.
- Air fry the popovers at 330 degrees F (165°C) and set cook time for 20-25 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown outside. Avoid opening the air fryer basket during baking to prevent the popovers from deflating.
- Once the popovers are done baking, remove them from the air fryer and immediately transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly. This helps prevent them from becoming soggy.

I’m not too sure what that other reader did wrong, but these worked out great for me. They rose really nicely, but I left them in the airfryer in their silicone molds while I was finishing the rest of dinner and they deflated. Next time I will follow the instruction to remove to a cooling rack immediately. I think I will also take them out of the silicone molds immediately and maybe that will help with deflation. They could also have used another minute or two in the air fryer, but maybe that’s just a difference in air fryer?

I’ve not heard of these but they’d sound like Yorkshire Puddings. Are Poppers just another name for Yorkshires which are famous in the UK?
Barb
That’s because silicone molds aren’t hot, you have to cook them in metal.
