How To Make Air Fryer Cinnamon Twists
These Air Fryer Cinnamon Twists are a quick and delicious treat that will satisfy your sweet cravings with their delightful combination of crispy pastry and sweet cinnamon sugar flavor.
Making Air Fryer Cinnamon Twists is a simple and delightful process. These treats are crispy outside, with a sweet and aromatic cinnamon sugar filling. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees F (190°C) for 2-3 minutes.
Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, combine sugar and ground cinnamon. Add a touch of vanilla extract, if desired, for extra flavor.
Roll Out the Dough: On a clean surface lightly dusted with flour, roll the dough into a rectangular shape.
Brush with Melted Butter: Brush the entire surface of the puff pastry with melted butter, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
Sprinkle with Cinnamon Sugar: Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the buttered puff pastry, pressing it gently to adhere.
Fold and Cut the Pastry: Carefully fold the puff pastry half lengthwise, creating a long strip. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the strip into approximately 1-inch wide sections.
Twist the Strips: Take the long strips and twist it multiple times to create a spiral shape. Place the twisted strips on a baking sheet or plate.
Air Fry: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the twisted pastry strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between them. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook them in batches.
Cook Time: Air fry the cinnamon twists at 375°F (190°C) with a cooking time of 6-8 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Cool and Serve: Remove the twists from the air fryer and let them cool slightly. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness. Serve your cinnamon roll twist while still warm and crispy. Serve with sweet cream cheese or your favorite dipping sauce.
Recipe Variations
Air Fryer Cinnamon Twists are incredibly versatile, and there are numerous ways to customize them to suit your taste. Here are some delightful recipe variations:
- Nutty Easy Cinnamon Twists: Sprinkle finely chopped nuts, such as almonds, pecans, or walnuts, over the cinnamon sugar mixture before folding and twisting the pastry strips. The nuts add a satisfying crunch and a rich, nutty flavor.
- Chocolate Cinnamon Twists: Place chocolate chips or small chocolate chunks on the puff pastry before folding and twisting. The heat from the air fryer will melt the chocolate, creating a delightful chocolate-filled twist.
- Fruity Cinnamon Twists: Add a layer of fruit preserves or fruit compote, such as raspberry or apricot, over the puff pastry before sprinkling with cinnamon sugar. This adds a fruity sweetness to the twists.
- Cream Cheese-Stuffed Twists: Spread a thin layer of softened cream cheese over the puff pastry before adding the cinnamon sugar mixture. The creaminess of the cheese complements the sweet and spicy flavors.
- Glazed Cinnamon Twists: After air frying, drizzle the twists with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and a small amount of milk or lemon juice. This adds extra sweetness and a glossy finish.
- Savory Cinnamon Twists: Skip the sugar and cinnamon, and instead, season the pastry with grated cheese, herbs, or spices for a savory twist. Perfect for serving as a snack or appetizer.
- Mini Cinnamon Twists: Cut the puff pastry into smaller strips to create mini twists, ideal for serving at parties or as bite-sized treats.
- Festive Cinnamon Twists: Experiment with seasonal ingredients like pumpkin puree, cranberry sauce, or gingerbread spices during the holidays for a festive twist.
- Fruit-Filled Twists: Add fresh fruit slices, such as apple or pear, to the puff pastry before folding and twisting. The combination of sweet fruit and cinnamon sugar is delightful.
- Caramel-Coated Twists: Drizzle the twists with caramel sauce before serving for an extra layer of sweetness and indulgence.
Pro Tips
To achieve the best results when making these tasty snacks, consider these pro tips:
- Use Thawed Puff Pastry: Ensure your puff pastry sheet is fully thawed before starting. Cold or frozen pastry can be difficult and may not puff up properly.
- Evenly Distribute Cinnamon Sugar: When sprinkling the cinnamon sugar mixture, ensure it’s evenly distributed over the entire surface of the pastry. This ensures a balanced flavor in every bite.
- Don’t Overstuff: While it’s tempting to add extra filling ingredients like nuts or chocolate, be cautious not to overstuff the twists. Overfilling can cause the pastry to become too heavy and prevent it from puffing up correctly.
- Press Gently: After applying the cinnamon sugar mixture, press it gently onto the pastry to help it adhere better and create a flavorful crust.
- Twist Firmly: When twisting the pastry strips, do so firmly but gently to avoid tearing the dough. Twisting too loosely may result in unraveling during cooking.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer briefly before cooking the twists. This ensures they start cooking immediately and helps achieve a crisp exterior.
- Grease the Basket: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or oil to prevent the twists from sticking during cooking. This also helps achieve an even browning.
- Avoid Crowding: Arrange the twisted pastry strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them for proper air circulation. Overcrowding can result in uneven cooking.
- Monitor Cooking Time: Keep an eye on the twists as they cook. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model, so check them regularly to prevent overcooking.
- Cool Slightly Before Serving: Let the cooked twists cool for a few minutes on a flat surface or wire rack before serving. This allows the filling to set and prevents you from burning your mouth on hot sugar.
- Dust with Powdered Sugar Carefully: If you choose to dust the twists with powdered sugar, use a fine-mesh sieve or sifter for a light, even dusting.
- Experiment with Flavors: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavor variations, fillings, or glazes to create unique twists that suit your taste.
