Some Pro Tips:

  • You can lightly spray the basket with cooking spray so that the walnuts do not stick.
  • Shake the basket several times during the cooking process.
  • Try to get the walnuts on a single layer.
  • Add some spices that you like, I used ground cinnamon, but you can easily make them with chili powder or ground cumin.

Are glazed and candied walnuts the same?

They are almost the same, although glazed walnuts usually contain corn syrup. Since the air fryer would not cook corn syrup well, I used butter and white sugar to make them candied.

Although they sound very different glazed and, candied walnuts taste about the same.

The Trick to Making Air Fryer Candied Walnuts

The real trick for this recipe and many recipes that you make in the air fryer is to shake the basket frequently during the cooking process.

Shaking the air fryer basket or using a pair of tongs allows both sides to be perfectly cooked if you have an air fryer oven.

The other trick is to make sure that all of your walnuts are coated with the butter mixture. This way, when the heat hits them, they perfectly cook.

Ways to Use Candied Walnuts

I usually serve these up around the holiday or BBQ or even get-together for a quick snack.

You can also serve them as a salad topping, which is excellent for the summer. I usually keep a bowl in an airtight container and add them as a quick add-in for a great crunch.

I also add them to my kid’s bowl of yogurt or ice cream for a quick topping.

How To Store Candied Walnuts

Once your walnuts cool to room temperature, place them into an airtight container. Place the container on the counter, and use them within a week.

Otherwise, they will start to get soft. I would avoid putting them into the refrigerator, as the butter will harden them.

How Do You Keep The Walnuts From Sticking?

Since we are not using any corn syrup, they will end up not sticking like other recipes. I find that shaking the basket really helps keeps the walnuts separated.

Do Candied Walnuts Go Bad?

Yes, all candied peanuts and walnuts go bad after a while. You should not have this problem since you are making such a small batch in your air fryer.

I find that after a week, they start to go bad. The butter begins to break down. So, for best results, if you don’t want a whole batch of walnuts, split the recipe in half and only make a small batch.
